Some credit is due for Mallika as well as there definitely is some hard work done by this female. Of course I admit that she has this uncanny ability to attract attention by her doings on screen and also by the way she dresses or let me rephrase it: the lack of it!
But I admire her work ethic and also her will power to go on her own in such a moralistic society.
So its kind of 50:50 one half based on hard work and ethics and the other half bordering on the taboo and liking for controversy..
