baskar...ok, here it is... if you ask me i normally watch English, Korean, French, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Mallu and Telegu movies...my all time fav movies belong to English and French and few Korean movies [they are bit Gory though].. In india, i like selected Hindi movies, Tamil and Kannada movies...it is not practical to say who is better than whom...Hindi - they have more reach than Tamil movies so they do better collections... it is easy to criticise Dhoom or Krish, but comon, didnt we like Terminator or 300?? i guess it was quite decent effort from them..in south, Tamil industry did well in 2006....kannada there was a great movie - Mungaru Male.....it is we sit and fight here he he.. look at our stars... Amitabh does guest appearance in southern movies and AR Rehman, Maniratam, Madhavan, Siddarth go to bollywood and take roles..so..let us stop comparing yaar... let us enjoy good movies....
With the kind of movies Cannnes is selecting, either there is severe shortage of good cinema or they don't understand it. Maybe Tom and Jerry will make it soon

we Indians are divided thats the reason and dont forget that even South Indians abuse North Indians. We just exist as a geogrpahic entity. We are divided by caste,language,region etc etc etc.

yeaaaa!!hurray!i shall definitely watch it here in UK.70 theaters in UK is big thing.i am staying in one of the bigger cities in UK so am sure it should be screened here as well. hope you have produced facts.i watch Rajni movies for comedy.i feel relaxed after watching his movies.i dont know y..but i admire his stardom.and yes am not from North India,b4 you jump into conclusion.but am i do critisze many of rajni movies.i think vijyakanth is rubbish.vijay is stupid.all vijay movies are remakes and all action in the movie is a comic stunt.yes i do agree surya and madhavan are good.i like watching their movies. waiting for shivaji as well.coz its shankars movie with Rajni.

Request you not to generalize your opinion based on your experience. I have traveled abroad a lot - and I have never introduced myself as a 'Tamilian' unless and until asked specifically for it. I have always introduced myself as an 'Indian'.

the entire chain of conversation and defense of tamil film industry came when someone wrote against tollywood and against rajinikanth (refered to him as BUS CONDUCTOR). i am a non-tamilian living in chennai. i dont think tamilians view themselves as any different than other parts of india (i lived there too). if you dont agree - why is there anyone refering themselves as Mallus, Telugus, marathis, biharis, bongs, punjabis, gujaratis. if calling someone refering to himself from tamil nadu is wrong then the entire nation is at fault.
i appreciate your point on hollywood though. let us not compare our works to hollywood. we are differnt.

hmm..sensible.. few points raised by your are perfect...we shouldnt fight here..at the same time.. let us not generalise..and yeha.. i have been following this particular thread since start... actual touble creator was some called "shankar" who started criticising bollywood first in comparision with tamil industry...few finally it became too ditry with lots of racist comments and abusive words..
This is in reference to your comment in this thread regarding our national language. It is you who need to check the fact. The fact is that India does not have a National Language. My stand on National Language is that - the best candidate for the National Language should evolve and should be not be pushed by a Government.

Thatz a rubbish post... a) TN stood first in raising funds for kargil victims.
b) Roja was a inspiration for many partition movies, when we don't have an iota of idea about kashmir problem.
I am very happy that Veyil is selected for Cannes. I will be more happy if Veyil will not get any Filmfare or Indian International award because both these awards were given only to people who climbs from building to building, going round the trees with 2 or more heroines and the peolple who wear jeans, cargos, etc.
movies are even more vulgar than Hollywood. The disgusting pelvic thrusts of the leading ladies of Indian movies are even more pathetic than the most contrived sex scenes of Hollywood movies. Just look at some of the regressive attitudes shown in movies 1) It is ok for 60-70 year old guys to romance 20 year old ladies 2) It is ok if a male has an affair with women, not so for the lady 3) It is not ok for the lady of the house to work outside. 4) It is ok for a male to have more than 1 wives and we blame muslims for it.

ya right movies like terminator and batman and cyborg and godzilla depict reality...very true..actually speaking wen i went for lunch today, i saw a cyborg crossing the road...!! super site it was...i even went and shook hands with the cyborg and he said we wud intro me to godzilla as well...as i was in hurry i told him...maybe another time...

sorry I dont watch blockbuster special-effects movies all that much. But we do try to copy and make a grand special effects laden movie which are total duds like Dhoom,Krrish etc. Moreover Hollywood movies are short and Indian movies have an interval which breaks the momentum of the narrative. Why dont you watch hollywood classics like Godfather,American Beauty,Babel BloodDiamond etc and then compare. I have also seen some good Tamil movies too like Thevar Magan, Nayagan etc, but such movies are few and far between. Most of the stuff churned out by Indian film industries is just escapist stuff

i have seen american beauty, babel, blood diamond etc.., yes these are fab movies..many more i can name like Forest Gump, Catch Me if u can, My Fair Lady etc..., I am not saying they make bad movies...they make great ones...for that matter in India too...they make great ones...like u have thevar magam, bombay, guru, nayagan etc., there is a difference between the Indian crowd and the Western crowd...u cant make classic movies here and expect the locals to come and watch it...at the end of the day movie making is a business for many...they not doing it for charity...in the same way ur working for ur family...they are working for their bread and butter...and in India the tested formula for success is running around trees, and titliation and it works...simple...!!
