Omkara review
by raj agarwal on Aug 03, 2006 09:22 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I read the reviews on Rediff regularly and Mr Raja Sen never ceases to amaze me. While he tears apart movies like Fanaa, he chooses to go on and on about Omkara. The kind of build up that was being given to it, I was not surprised to read the reviews on rediff even though the film is not faring well. Pray tell me Sir, what is the greatness in telling a story that has already been told? You said in your Fanaa review that Hum Tum was 'charmlessly ripped' from When Harry met Sally. Then how come you praise Vishal Bhardwaj for being loyal to the Bard?

The difference is that Kunal"CopyCat"Kohli never admitted that he had ripped WHMS, whereas Vishal has presented the film as an adaptation of Othello from the outset and not claimed 'originality' for his script

Omkara is Class !
by Sandy on Aug 03, 2006 09:19 AM  Permalink

I agree fully,Omkara is just Class !
At least we can forget the ever-so-silly SRK and Yashraj films like Fannaa being the most recent stupid one.

good review.. and it should be an awesome film as i hope.

but i just dont understand why raja sen wants to send dvds of whom ever to ar rahman ? agreed, omkara's music is great. i do love it. but i dont think it is necessary to insult a great musician like ar rahman while reviewing someone else' movie

but i like the review, i must say it.

Well, you got him wrong dear. Infact, he is giving a kind of compliment to AR Rehman and Anu Malik. He is saying that if a music director can make such a great film inspired by those dvds(read the reviews again), then definitely we shud send these DVDs to the great like AR Rehman and the popular one Anu Malik too. May be they too could make such films.

Hail Omkara!
by Shruti on Aug 03, 2006 08:24 AM  Permalink

Sanity, sensibility and sensitivity are often mutually exclusive in a bollywood film.....and then, circa 2006, arrives a film titled Omkara....based on a classic saga of human emotions scripted almost four hundred years ago, interpretted brilliantly, placed contextually and shot passionately.A stellar cast, brilliant sets with give away touches of convincing authenticity and the music with the words ,the voices and the sounds enhancing the magic of it all makes Omkara the film it is...awesome all the way.
It is a well thought out film, details etched out to perfection.
The characters wear what they are...their aura is the light they deliver in...their language is the language of who they believe they are...not who they know the world knows they are....and that makes all the difference.
The director is the music director too...and that makes the ideal team of the literal heart and soul guardian angels of an ideal film....with a brilliant lyricist and extremely talented voices to communicate the language and the passion of the soul of the movie, the maker, the performers and the creators of Omkara.
Keep up the passion and the great work and the team ,Mr.Vishal Bhardwaj:)!!!

Raja Sen

Raja Sen
Raja Sen
Raja Sen
oh, Raja Sen

Ok, we shall all go watch Omkara and make it a sleeper hit like Black.
Please don't make us feel that not watching it would be our greatest sin.
I guess if it's even half as good as what you make it to be, we shall be satisfied.
One point though... Saathi Re Rocks.
And another point... Shakespeare was good and original and awesome and did not belong to an era with 24/7 Internet, TV and Radio for entertainment.

Regards,
Sudhan!

what happens when Mr.Raja Sen Praises for a movie???
by vineet on Aug 03, 2006 12:46 AM  Permalink

..........................

That movie is going to be a dud and thats exactly the case with Omkara.

(Remember his reviews for paheli????)

The movie leaves you yawning with uncleared voices and sounds thru the entire length and is creepy, dull and full of foul language.

Mr.Raja sen, would you take your familiy along with you to watch this movie full of abusive language??

May GOD pour his quota of wisdom unto you soon.

Ameen!!!

Is it just me or does anybody else think 'Raja Sen' often sounds like a teenager?

Is it just me or does anybody else think 'Raja Sen' often sounds like a teenager? be it his positive or negative reviews...he comes across as a juvenile, emotional mess with half-boiled knowledge of indian and world cinema...is this his paid job?
