For all the respect that I have for the TATAs, I think they have missed a golden opportunity to demonstrate how industrialization can be done without allowing politicians to interfere in such matters. This was all the more necessary since it is not only they in WB who are facing this problem but innumerable projects all over India are held up because of the problem of opposition to land allotment to the project - POSCO in Orissa, Essar Steel in Chattisgarh, and innumerable SEZs all over.
The TATAs needed to by pass the politicians and deal directly with the affected people. Form a copperative of the people whose lands are acquired and acknowledge this land acquisition as an investment in the project. Such an investment would pay returns to the cooperative year after year after year and there would be a reason for the land owners to stand up to the Trinamul or any other party fishing in troubled waters. It is not too late even now for the TATAs to show the way out. They will also have to get out of the Jamshedpur mind set. The Jamshedpur model was possible then. In today's world newer models are required. Every Bihar and now Jharkhand Government has wanted to renegotiate the Jamshedpur model and the only answer the Tatas have had is the treat to withdrawn further investments from Bihar / Jharkhand. Thus we now have Telco Pune, Lucknow, Pantnagar etc. with Jharkhand deprived of its legitimate investments. Will the TATAs try and think "out fo the box" for a change.

Wel said Alok..... but are you really aware about the environment prevailing in bengal? here you want to do some thing avoiding the politicians???? you cant take your step out from your home without a politician's permission.... and the peoples-who are the main beneficiary of the project, whether they went and stopped mamata benerjee in her doing the vandalism? We slept in our home and let mamta do her dirty dance for her share of cake..... so dont blame tata or bata or any one. Instead dear brethern of our country, lets awake from our slumber and do for our self else these criminals will never let you remain alive
1.) The land has been acquisitioned as per a law and not politician can turn that as it is governed by court. 2.) The 400 acres ( untrue) is scatterred all across the project site and unless the project is closed it cannot be returned. 3.) Even if it is returned, the land is not worth cltivating in the next 10 years as construction has already taken place. 4.) All polls across religions, population strata of West Bengal show that people are for this project. 5.) The Industrial lobby (Narayan Murthy, Bharti Mittal, Birla etc.) have openly supported this and pleaded for restraint.
What do you think is driving a bunch of 'MAD' people? it is cash in crores which has been paid by Maruti and Hyundai to stall /delay this project. Kindly note that the entire auto industry's small car segment and bikes segment would have ruptured with this product in the market by October. Hyundai has been grappling with a 800 cc car and Maruti is reducing costs, Bajaj is coming up with a similar segment car. Friends let us accept that corporate espionage in india is not so developed or else we would have heard about 'tehelka' like tape or video. Sirs, these are underlying themes which cannot be proved but perceived.

Completely in agreement with you on this matter. TMC never had the resources to organise a proper rally till such time as they started protesting against Nano. Suddenly they are flush with funds and are hiring people by the hundreds to protest against something which all common people are in favour of.
Its a shame on a State which was leading the Industries of the Country during fifties and sixties . No doubt , Dirty Politics is responsible for the whole event . However , its not still all over . As per the report avl , Governor is taking initiative to settle the matter . May be TATA will have to give a second thought before taking the final decision of leaving the state .

Actually the name of the country is Somalia, and it is not the poorest country in Africa. The poorest country currently is Zimbabwe which has an annual inflation of 1300% for 3 years now.

Politically it always was.... see the fact u guys are missing, so called bengali intellectuals are Kaamchors, now that Left under leadership of Buddhadeb is trying to turn things around these intellectuals are shifting sides to those who will help them seat idle...........
Earlier they closed Bengal Immunity, Bengal Chemical, Calcutta Chemical, Bengal Lamps, Krishna Glass, National Instruments etc. They blamed the centre on each of the occasion but reality is otherwise. Even today half our office staff comes atlest an hour and half late and leaves early. Tata should have thought over that before going ahead even if the land was given in a dubious manner.

Incidentally, he won the nobel for his book of poems entitled Gitanjali, not for a praise of George Vth. And the last time i checked, he is the only person from India to have ever won the award. The other "Indians" who won the award decided to disown the country and took their awards to USA.

She is the only pwerson who can fight against this so called "secret trade" with the industrialists.
As the Hen giving golden egg will about to die, ganguly wake up & supported nano......Mamta asked him 3 questions "Where is Singur?" "How many farmers killed in Singur?" "How many women raped in Singur?"
Re: Saurabh Ganguly is supporting Nano !

Even I dont know the answer of the last two!!! Oh yes!!! our didi has found issues outside those 400 acres then???
Re: Saurabh Ganguly is supporting Nano !

how many people killed in Singur or women raped in singur is not relevant to the promise of having a Nano project in WB.

SAURABH GANGULY IS NOT A GOD. HE IS ONLY A CRICKETER WHO DOES NOT KNOW SUFFERINGS OF THE FARMERS WHO LOST THEIR LAND.
Re: Saurabh Ganguly is supporting Nano !
by sumit mukherjee on Sep 03, 2008 11:22 AM Permalink
And you understand the sufferings because...? Sourav may not understand farmers and he is not god. He is a sportsperson whose family runs a successful business. So he spoke as a businessman and nothing more. How come you never commented on Narayana Murthy's support for the Nano factory?
out corrupted political parties(congress) the great congress leaders proved once again - they never allow countries industrial development-- this is fate of our country

What is matata's stupidity. As she alleged for the 400 acre, why govt not providing any alternative nor assurance. Why govt keep mum on these issues. What you thought goondaism can do by only left. They are the masters on these tactics

Govt. has offered larger compensation 6 months back. Land can't be offered as that is not legally possible. Mamata is a curse on Bengal.
