Re:Inflation and the babus
by John Bosco on May 27, 2008 03:59 PM  Permalink

The article tries to indicate, obviously at the behest of the powers that be,that there is an overreaction to inflation. This is a classical Marie Antoinette syndrome.
The scribe who has penned this has had a chat with some senior babus and got this view. What a shame.Since when did the present set of babus worry about inflation, public finance and the welfare of the poor.We have a set of rapters in these babus. They are all preoccupied with what assignments they can get now or after retirement.Odd that your scribe has asked them for a view. When they are insulated from inflation why would they not dub it as an overreaction.

This shows that most of the bloggers of rediff talk a lot but do not vote

Can you kindly take a pledge that in the next elections you will definetely vot

Plssss understand that you are spending hours debating these issues but you can decide on these issues if you vote for the right candidate or party spending just half an hour

Cheers

I still very well remember 4 years ago when UPA govt took over. Chidambaram was talking to NDTV where he said that there is lot of money in govt treasury and economy is really looking up. He also said that he has lot of options to try in the upcoming budget etc etc. Now economy is in such shambles. He should take responsibility & quir.

Don look at rate of inflation
by PB on May 27, 2008 02:40 PM  Permalink

To know that the prices are rising, you don't have to look at the rate of inflation figure. If the rate of inflation is at 20% but common man gets the basic things to feed himself at a affordable price, no one is bothered. people are bothered because when you go to market to buy your monthly items, the budget has risen by at least 50% if not more. No one needs the figures read in media about the rate of inflation. I don't understand why the rate of inflation is just 8%, looking at the price rice in vegetables, rice, pulses and oil etc it should have been more. The rates quoted are mainly from wholesale market whereas the fact is that people buy it from retailer not wholesaler and the price at the retailer should be taken into consideration

Rising Inflation
by Rash Group on May 27, 2008 02:32 PM  Permalink

I very well remember, 4 years ago, when UPA govt took charge, NDTV interviewed Chidambaram. Chidambaram said that there is lot of money in the coffers and the economy is looking up that he can try some options w.r.t. the upcoming budget(god knows what those options are!!) Now economy is in such shambles. He & He alone should take responsibility for that. But he is like another TR Baalu, he will never quit.

Maran - Accused of armtwisting TATA.
Baalu - armtwisted petroleum ministry to give subsidised gas connections for family run business.
Anbumani - spoiled AIIMS and damaged health sector in our country.
Chidambaram - spoiled the economy.

As a tamilian, I am really ashamed! I call upon all tamilians to vote out these morons!! Karunanidhi, the biggest traitor of this land should first be booted out.

i will accept everybody in the list but not all.
except chidambaram.
Chidambaram doesnt spoiled the economy,
The recession and the inflation is not in his hands.
He cannot control it. He can manage it to some extent and thats what he is doing right now.

Its only bcos of chidambaram that the price of coffee/tea/cement is growing exponentially, since his wife is a partner in the cement cartel as well as in tea estates. Whenever he becomes FM (even in Deve Gowda's govt, he was the FM), inflation started shooting up. If he is removed and a good economist like Rangarajan (ex-RBI governor) replaces him, then our economy might improve.

Government is hiding the facts
by Abhishek Goyal on May 27, 2008 02:02 PM  Permalink

It is true that WPI is only at 7%-8% inflation but trust Retail Price Index is around 25-30%. If you dont believe me ask your parents who do the shopping for you. The poor people are worst hit.

Further the Provisional figure of March inflation on WPI Index at 5.5% ended in final figure fo above 7.5% meaning thereby that by all possible means the current inflation of 8% amy end near 10%

Break up of these 7.8%
by ware vm on May 27, 2008 02:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Can anyone provide the breakup of this 7.8%, so that it can be find out which sector is sharing more and how does it will affect the common man.

I mean, it should not be like, RS. 500 IPL ticket is sold for RS 2500 so it is 500% imflation, because it really does not matter fro common man. But yes if RS 10 onion is now sold at RS 12 it means 20% imfletion, that is really worry for common man

I hope you people get my point

These are commodity prices compared to what previous year's prices were not a theoritical price of IPL tickets.
Worst, this is Wholesale price index. The Consumer price index will be a lot higher and unfortunatly, no one will have a correct picture on that. Maybe RBI.gov.in would have some info.
