I am a proud employee of Indian Government & I say that the salary hike is totally justified! To all the morons critisizing the government, pl note that its impossible for a common man to survive without govt. intervention even for 1 day. All your basic needs are fulfilled by govt. only. Electricity, roads, bridges, water, railways, defence, airport, delhi metro.... the list is endless.

Knowing this, you fools keep on critisizing Government! As for the bribe part, you tell me who bribes the government? Its the private companies! They will pay lakhs of Rupees to get a tender! Why cant they obtain tender on their capability?

As for the tax part, government employees are the most honest in depositing income tax! The tax is deducted at source (TDS), unlike private idiot employees who at times do not pay marginal tax out of their high salaries!

Hence salary hike is totally justified for govt. employees!

Hello you dirty idiot
Be ashamed of saying yourself to be a govt employee and commenting that only private companies pay bribes. even if they want to do work w/o bribe you ask for it shamelessly.

Every individual from birth to death 'has' to pay bribe to govt officials like you.

It is shame on govt employees to feel proud of what work they are doing even after 61 years of independence, let them look at govt employees of other countries like China, Australia, Malysia, Singapore, etc., how efficient they are in providing facilities for public through govt services. My friend is talking about roads, bridges, etc., where are they ? only 10 to 15% of our country men use them, go to towns and villages hardly there are roads. I think it is better to privatize all infrastructure developments to make people of India happier.
Why only govt officers are corrupt ? why common man do not bribe in banks, bill collection centers, bcoz they are privitaized or have fear of competetion. It is good news govt employees are getting hike but that should be linked to their performance..no free meals..

Mr Akash.. i do not intend to criticize the government employees. But i would like to cite a few points:
1. What is the level of service that comes with the basic needs provided by the goverment. In certain countries when there is a power failure it makes headlines because it is not something that is regular. If we start reporting our powercuts in the headlines, we would not have room for any other news.
2. How many instances can be cited when a government employee has been fired because of poor performance. Try underperforming in a private firm...
Hoping for a better performance from the public sector...

Mr. Shayne and Mr. Ravindra

Please explain me one thing. It is the responsibility of only the Govt. Employees to work for the development of India. What are we people, who work in Big MNCs do? We feel proud in working for international firms. But are we adding anything towards the betterment of our nation?
It's very easy to criticize but really hard to work. How many of us pay full tax? This tax is used for the development of India, for buying arms for the security.
How many of us keep the roads clean???? You were talking about the countries like Singapore/Australia. Do you know even a small thing like spitting on the road is a crime. You have to pay heavy fines for the same. Just imagine what will happen if the same policies are exercised in India also. All of you will be fined everyday
I am not saying that Govt. officials are right. But they can't be kept soley responsible for the slow development of India. The blame is on everyone.

We all know it is all our responsibilitiy to participate in development of India, however most of the development portfolios are under govt departments, common man cannot do much, if you wish to repair a piece of road, just try and see how many govt employees come behind you to ask for bribe to allow you to do good work for the country. Can you find a single employee working in a MNC defualting on TDS ? no way..now every MNC employee pays huge tax.
You said people pay fine in Singapore/Australia for spitting, yes there you can find out some one had spit and action to be taken, here can you make out who did what, even if they are caught we have our govt employees ready standing to take bribe and leave them.
Now time has come to all govt employees to understand their responsibilities and work hard/smartly to discharge their duties and question there superiors and make govt department effecient and make our country progress. Or just accept MNCs and priviatization.

corruption is there in every single aspect of life. why single out the govt. employees. agreed, 90 p.c of babus are thieves. but what about the 10 p.c honest guys ?

also, what are the private companies doing ? how does a below avg. fellow in a private compamy get a salary of a lakh per month ? whose money is that ?

take any private bank. they will rip you off at the slightest opportunity. now that is also corruption of a different kind.

pay commission
by jawahar suman on Mar 24, 2008 01:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

New Delhi, March 24: Justice B N Srikrishna on Monday submitted the Sixth Pay Commission%u2019s report to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

The Commission is reported to have recommended a hike of about 40% in salaries of Central government staff and officers, along with their counterparts in defence and paramilitary forces.

Before the report was submitted, there were indications that a secretary to the government will have a basic salary of Rs 80,000 a month, up from Rs 26,000.

The Cabinet Secretary, senior most officer in the country, is expected to get a basic salary of Rs 90,000, up from Rs 30,000.

The commission was also expected to bring down the number of scales to 18 from the present 33, to facilitate accounting and uniformity across various employees and officers.

The Commission, headed by Justice B N Srikrishna, was constituted in October 2006. It had been given 18 months to submit its report. The panel%u2019s recommendations are likely to benefit an estimated 4.5 million Central government employees.

Central government employees%u2019 remuneration includes a basic salary, a 50% dearness pay merged with the basic and a 47% dearness allowance of the total.

Excluding the arrears that would accrue to the 55 lakh employees, the annual impact of the new wage jump is estimated at Rs 11,000 crore. The new scale will be effective from January 2006, but half of it could be compulsorily put away under the GPF to bring down the instant payout.

india must pay for good governance.
by My way on Mar 24, 2008 01:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the last 25 years, civil service salaries have risen substantially. Yet, they are no comparison to private sector wage levels that have risen a hundred times in the same timeframe. The price of such disparities is psychological dysfunction among civil servants who are capable and highly motivated. India cannot short-change good governance. The prognosis for India's governance looks bleak, as good candidates for superior civil service jobs seek alternative careers.

Civil servants are bribe-hungry demons. Their salary should be half of what they are getting. Check their output and compare it to the output of an employee in private sector and then compare the salary difference

Had the salary structure of the civil servants been comparable to what the people working in the private sectors get, the corruption rate would have been very low.
Who says passing the tenders in the private companies doesn%u2019t require bribing the officials in a private firm? We have stereotyped the government officials as corrupt. But we should take into consideration that when everyone is running after money, there are still some people who want to stick to their 10-20K salary jobs just because they want to work for the betterment of the society.

What about Common man

Well the central govt employees and the state govt employees are to get a good jump.Since all the MPS and MLA s have got a good increase in their salaries.Along with the increase in corruption they are all benifited to a greater extent since they run this country .But what about the common man and those in the unorganised sector. All the prices are going up and our finance minister is saying that India is growing..This growth is just rubbish when the benifits are not reaching the aam aadmi. You say something and your actions are something. We are not seeing any inclusive growth.India is a socialistic republic and a democratic country. But those who rule this country have totally forgot about socialism and they only keep harping on GDP growth.Poverty is growing and you are not able to give any solutions for that.Just waiving the farm loans is not the answer you have to take them along with you and participate and make them enjoy the benifits of growth.AS of now this growth is benifitting only the RICH AND THE POLITICAL LEADERS assisted by the government servants. Its time that a serious introspection is done...otherwise these talks of growth is all bullshit.Ministers wake up ..we just cannot keep fooling the masses like this any longer

You are 100% correct pasupathy.good thinking.I bet you pay a govt office peon rs.60000 in salary every month, will he stop taking 50rs from a common man to take his file to sahib,i am talking about the lowest cadre what happens to the higher cadre and the highest cadre, these guys cannot do without curruption its deep rooted in their geans.lower and mideum cadre of defence personnel deserve good hike but not the high ranking officers becuase they too are highly currupt.Police men should also be considered for good growth they job is getting tougher day by day.Chidambaram is out to please 4.5million govt servants for votes and nothing else.11000 crores are going to be a tough burdon on AAM ADMI he is going to be chewed.

Performance based hike
by Dangerous on Mar 24, 2008 01:12 PM  Permalink

Increase in salary of govt employees is a welcome move but govt should have taken some statutory measures to ensure optimum utilisation of its resourses...The hike in salary ought to have been in the form of performance incentive...This could have fostered compettetion in public sector and made these sick units profitable..I have seen many govt schools which have teachers who hardly teach anything..Compensating such laggard, corrupt and incompetent employees does not augur well for this nation...I dont see ny reason why salary of president is so high ...the president gets so many perks nd previliges nd hike in its salary only puts additional burden on state exchequer..
