Wrong reason
by Sane Guru on Mar 19, 2008 11:46 AM  Permalink

Both roads to Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports (new) have good wide roads. The writer has not travelled at all to the two new airports at all. The real reason of course was loss of jobs and not the condition of roads. This is a ridiculous article.

Parasites

Most airport workers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad are Tamil workers. They watch Tamil channels on these airports, even while the travellers want to watch either Telugu or Kannada channels. Why cant the airports make sure that the local people get preference to jobs in airports, rather than let local agitations take place first and then do some firefighting. People feel bad when jobs are taken away. This is natural. This is the main reason, even in Mumbai, why cant governments allow local people to get preference or even quote in govt/semi-govt jobs. Local people just cant sit and watch their livelihood being snatched away by outsiders. They WILL agitate.

I think its because more outsiders can understand Tamil better than Kannada and Telugu. Moreoever in airports the local people are always less, while the outsiders who travel are more, so its convenient for them.

Real problem of airports
by philip thomas on Mar 18, 2008 05:40 PM  Permalink

Just suppose that the plan for BIA was made without the requirement of closing HAL. What sort of plan would that be? How big would BIA be? How would it grow over the years? How would traffic be shared? How would the traffic be regulated? How would the charges be regulated? Who would ensure that both airports co-existed for the long haul instead of one competitively trying to put the other out of business? Once you figure out these things, how would you convince the civil aviation ministry to switch to this paradigm for new airports in places like Goa, Pune, Agra etc? This is the million dollar question for India now after the BIA and HIA fiascos.

Choose the FALSE one out:
1.Bangalore is a breeding ground for stray dogs
2.Bangalore is now called Bengaluru
3.Bangalore's roads are completely not planned
4.Bangalore has India's most unpredictable and unstable government for the past decade
5.Bangalore is just a hype which actually was famous for cold weather
6.Bangalore has the highest percentage of alcoholic drinkers in India
7.Travel time from Bangalore's old International airport to the new one takes atmost two hours.

Ans.
7 is False. Travel time could extend upto 3 or even 4 hours because of the ill-managed traffic and ill-planned roads.

let there be competition
by cheruvu hanumantha rao on Mar 18, 2008 12:05 PM  Permalink

let there be competition amongst air ports. Then customer will benefit and efficiency will increase. Dont create monopoly. There should not be any restrictive clause in any agreement in not allowing new air ports or to close existing air ports. In other countries, such as USA, there are many air ports within short distance and air port managements are competing to woo air lines as well as passengers with additional facilities at competitive rates. Investing in new air port is a business and they should face competition like any other business.Restrictive clauses should be removed from any agreement. Govt. should encourage healthy competition and should not allow monopoly or cartelisation/syndication.
