General Motors REPLY TO BILL GATES At a computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release Stating: "If GM had developed technology like microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part, esp 7th point and 10'th point): 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would ! run on only five percent of the roads. 6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed an Illegal Operation" warning light. 7. The airbag sys

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying. 8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off. "
Some days back I asked my 14 years old daughter: "What is your aim in life dear?" She promptly replied " I like to be an Engineer" - with a counter question to me "Dad - you being a successful Engineer in a leading multinational - what's your aim in life? is it over?" I started thinking and answered to my mind "I want to be the Managing Director of my company"
Now a thinking came in mind - if i go ask the same question to my M.D. what may be his answer? I guess He will answer "I want to be Bill Gates". Now what target Bill Gates may have? Means if I ask the same question to Bill Gates - what he may answer - will he keep mum? NO - he must be telling "I LIKE TO BE OMNIPOTENT, OMNIPRESENT, OMNISCIENT i.e. to achieve GODLINESS".
Yes - that is the ultimate aim in life. TO be Godly. When a child is born - he is born with utter Godliness - and gradually loose that heavenly Godliness - and agin aim to get back that like "We loose health to earn wealth and again try to get back the health by spending wealth". This eternal cycle completion is our aim.
Bill Gates is also of no exception. But I feel we must not wait to start our journey to achieve Godliness after being Bill Gates - in that case we may not be able to fulfill our aim. rather we must start our quest to achieve the eternal heavenly GODLINESS from now itself.
Thanks to Rediff to help me to re-affirm my aim in life.

"The geek who changed the world" is not at all a geek! We worship success; in 1972, countries who treated India with contempt suddenly got a new respect for us after the Bangladesh war. Gates didn't invent DOS or GUIs (he bought QDOS - "quick and dirty OS", from a small company, Xerox scientists discovered the mouse, Apple developed these concepts but were too short- sighted to let others use their OS) but he made the right moves. This much we can appreciate, but not Microsoft's monopolistic behaviour and violation of laws. These are not my opinions. I am just writing down facts I read about over the years. You can find out the facts yourself from the Web. Please don't blame me.
1. He is a rich man & off course smart. 2. His richness came from monopoly. 3. Monopoly came with ignorance from common user who thought that Windows is the only operating system and MS Office is the only office software. 4. Indians like many other global citizens, are foolish who do not want to try Linux or Open office. 5. Bill Gates: The geek who changed the world -- no its not true. He has asked the world to change and switch over to Linux and open office. 6. He has personalised the computers and created the digital divide & ensured that only a few can use the computers. 7. World should not expect another Bill Gate....!!!!

absolutely. all his riches came from the monopoly of windows and microsoft word. the basic copy of windows and word will be the price of a low end PC, and at the top end the price of an average laptop. they have actively discouraged good security practices until it became unbearable. they have in the road to become rich troubled countless individuals. they have monopolised so many markets, driven companies to losses by illegal tactics - not genuine competition.
Bill gates a very much gifted person in this world.. go getting attitude and self belief takes a man beyond centuries.. bill gates is one among that.. Not all school drop outs be come like bill gates .. he is somehting special... Gifted person..

Well said Ajay. Especially the scene in which Steve and Bill confront each other about stealing GUI from Xerox.
