do Shiny roads and airports automatically mean progress
by H N on Jun 13, 2008 03:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I work with people from china most of them of scared of saying anything against the government in a country half around the world from china. Some of them have been affected negatively by the governments "Focus on growth" at all costs. Sadly the writer missed the section "AT ALL COSTS" from the focus on the growth part. Simple example pollution from chinese industrial growth has reached Alaska and washington state. Yes industrialized countries polluted lot more when they grew and continue to pollute even now. But China now has access to information and technology that was not so prevalent when these nations grew.

And please Britain is not a real free market economy. They are a lot more socialist than America. They lean so far to the left that even the most free market oriented right wing British MP wouldn't be too far in their position from an average American american left wing democrat.

Avoid Hetthrow if you are on EAD and AP travell document
by BostonTechee on Jun 12, 2008 10:28 PM  Permalink

All H1B's in their 6th year or who have EAD and travelling on Advance Parole Travell document. Please please please avoid Hethrow at all costs.

They do not give you a transit visa if you are on the EAD AP Travell doc category, but still detain you in Hethrow because they complain saying you dont have a travell visa. They cant understand the fact that Advance Parole Travel doc and EAD is good enough to enter USA.

Hence Its a big risk to go thru Hethrow.

Why all praise for China
by Sunil on Jun 12, 2008 10:14 PM  Permalink

This author seems to be a big fan of China. Unfortunately i am'nt. For all those achievements that China boasts of there are many more sufferings which are shielded from the outside world. No one knows the plight of the people who were relocated (or should i rather say evicted) to give way to the new terminal. Less known are the unfair hardships the labourers had to suffer in building the Beiging terminal. If Heathrow T5 has taken 20 years it is because the officials had to listen to and respect the case of every single individual living next door to Heathrow. Without convincing the local residents, environmental groups and all other stakeholders there is no way the government authorities would have got a planning permission. Inspite of all this planning process there are still some protestors outside heathrow ,claiming that the new terminal will bring more flights and hence more pollution. Can anyone ever protest in China? Look at the plight of the Tibetian monks. So before one goes 'Gung ho' praising China one should also showcase the acts of its oppressive regime.

India is better off
by Gurdeep Singh on Jun 12, 2008 06:23 PM  Permalink

I believe India is better off than China who want to show off their progress by showcasing these imposing structures. If they have really progressed than it should not need foreign expertise to build these structures. If you watch Discovery channel or National Geographic then you will learn that Chinese have hired British or American engineers and architects to build them. Whats the big deal in that?

So the benchmark is airports.. if an airport is among the best of the best then that country has made the biggest progress !!!!.. is that right ?..

Just peep outside, China is no different from india, rural chinese are economically, socially and politically so backward that we can proudly say that India is way ahead in terms of overall development, a tad behind in economy and infra.. but overall we have a better system here..

Hyd and BLR airports
by PAL on Jun 12, 2008 11:43 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Can you also write an article comparing hyderabad airport and bengaluru airport.
i rate hyderabad airport 90% international and Bengaluru 45%. Hyd airport design was approved by TDP government headed by Chandrababu Naidu whereas BLR airport design is approved by SM Krishna led congress government. That makes all the difference.

by R Balasubramanian on Jun 12, 2008 01:50 PM  Permalink
there is a marked difference. Krishna approved and Gowdas executed it. Belgaluru new airport has been commenced in a great hurry with majority of facilities left unfinished. The agony of passengers is never ending. Transport to city is a day light robbery by the State run transport BMTC charging per passenger Rs.200 on AC and Rs.150 on non-AC. If a family of six members arrive at the airport and want to reach Jeevanbhimanagar near old airport, they have to shell out Rs.1200 instead if they engage a taxi, it will cost them only around 700. The Karnataka government is never public friendly as is our neighbouring states TN and AP. They burden the people with taxes as and when the coffer is emptied by the politicians. A surcharge on petrol @ 50 paise per litre was charged during JH Patel CMship for city infrastructure and till date it is continued but the state of the improvement of Karnataka is pathetic and is known to the entire country. Have anyone seen roads being asphalted during monsoon. This can be seen and happen only in Karnataka. Yeddi should bring back the lost glory of Karnataka and the government should be people friendly. The public transport has to be improved to make public to use the same instead of forcing every public to opt for a two wheeler. Every house in Bangalore has a minimum of two two wheelers. Inspite of the fare in public transport being the costliest in India, the service is pathetic.
Till the government is people friendly there are years

hahaha.. looks like your intellect is as ugly as Rakhi Sawants assets....

Toyota Innova can surely ferry 6 1 and more, and mind you these are taxies in bangalore specially for airport services !!!

People would anyday prefer liquid sambar to Rakhis assets.. only an Abhishek Awasthi will prefer Rakhi over other things... LoL !!

One terminal on the average will have 50 to 70 gates, all connected thro areobridges. Thus there is no comparison of other international airports with Hyd and BLR

Truly said. But at the same time, remember our HYD and BLR airports work out of a single terminal. We just read Heathrow and Beijing operations are out of 5 and 3 terminals respectively..... LoL
