TATAs the Great!
by Anumakonda JAGADEESH on Jun 10, 2008 08:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Tata Group has built a global reputation on the fundamental premise that doing good can translate into doing good business. Tata Group is the largest private company in India. It has interests in steel, automobiles, information technology, communication, power, tea and hotels. The Tata Group has operations in more than 85 countries across six continents and its companies export products and services to 80 nations. The Tata Group comprises 98 companies in seven business sectors, 27 of which are publicly listed. The Tata Group is one of India's largest and most respected business conglomerates, with revenues in 2005-06 of $21.9 billion (Rs 967,229 million), the equivalent of about 2.8 per cent of the country's GDP, and a market capitalization of $46.9 billion. Tata companies together employ some 202,712 people. The Tata family of companies shares a set of five core values: integrity, understanding, excellence, unity, and responsibility. These values, which have been part of the Group's beliefs and convictions from its earliest days, continue to guide and drive the business decisions of Tata companies. The Group and its enterprises have been steadfast and distinctive in their adherence to business ethics and their commitment to corporate social responsibility. This is a legacy that has earned the Group the trust of many millions of stakeholders in a measure few business houses anywhere in the world can match. Long live TATAs & their business.

Not sure if this badge of high ethics is well deserved !
by SS Kumar on Jun 10, 2008 08:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am not quite sure if this honour is well deserved by TATA as belied by experiences on the ground. I surrendered my phone back to BSNL more than five years back and I am yet to get back my refund. I had originally paid Rs. 30,000. If BSNL shares the TATA brand of ethics, they would have come back to me ages back, instead of adopting this catch-me-if-you-can approach. I now plan to approach the Consumer Court to get this sorted out, as reminders have been to no avail, so far. I hope Ratan TATA reads this.

TATA is the best example.

For decades this company has a reputation of most ethical company. Even though their steel plant is located in wild land in Bihar. They have thrived by sticking to their no nonsense ethical standard.

But I have heard not so good things about INFOSYS. Is it true about INFOSYS ?

IKEA
by cynic on Jun 10, 2008 06:36 PM  Permalink

founders are not reputable. They do all kinds of financial manipulation just like Anil Ambani to avoid paying tax. And despite having such huge amounts of money, they donate very little to charitable houses. They remind me of Ambani, maybe a little more classier that is all. But in essence they are also scheming marwari type organization
