State of Affairs & Socio-Economic Contradiction in West Bengal, Part-3
by Arijit on Jun 11, 2008 06:31 AM  Permalink

Industries have lost faith in the economy of West Bengal and simultaneously lost platforms by the introduction of some stupid unions (like CITU) in industries. West Bengal has witnessed closures of PSUs during the last 31 years regime of ‘Communism’ in Bengal.

It is true that the ‘Communist’ Govt in Bengal has taken ‘adequate measures’ to have (vi) ‘increasing the control of the actual producers, that is, the workers, over the industrial sector.’ I believe that the well wishers of West Bengal must agree with me in regard to the success of this ‘control’. This ‘control’ is the only success in West Bengal for which PSUs and many private manufacturing companies, jute mills faced closures in West Bengal. Question may arise how the ‘communist’ ‘control’ the ‘industrial sectors’! The ‘industrial sectors’ are mainly influenced as well as ‘controlled’ by one of the ‘Communist’-led Trade union called CITU. How does CITU function to have such ‘control’ over industries? This ‘control’ is to collect money for Communists’ party funds as well as to enrich the CITU leaders’ pockets! A good nexus of such ‘Communists’ with the ‘single investment-huge profit’ psychology industrialists helps the ‘Communist’ Govt to accomplish their goal, i.e., to have ‘Control over the industrial sector’!

I guess that all the agendas delineated by the then ‘Marxist’ Govt of West Bengal have been analysed briefly. Space limitation forces me to adequately substantiate the facts with numerous known incidences!

State of Affairs & Socio-Economic Contradiction in West Bengal, Part-2
by Arijit on Jun 11, 2008 06:30 AM  Permalink

The ‘Communist’-led Govt of Bengal has not yet been able to (ii) reduce the 'stranglehold of the monopoly houses and MNC on the economy of the State'.

There is no (iii) indigenous technology developed in the soil of West Bengal till date which can claim itself as a competitive technology round the globe under global economic scenario. Though few software / BPO industries have been developed in West Bengal based on the economy of developed countries like USA, Europe, (iv) it is far ahead to achieve “industrial self-reliance” by any industry based on the economy of India. If the illegal ‘local distilleries’ (it becomes ‘legal’ depending upon the amount of the bribe given to the police and local administration as well as cadre of CPIM/CPI!!) like ‘Chullu’ made in various corners of West Bengal is called ‘small scale industries’, I will be very happy if the Government of West Bengal discloses the amount of the revenue (bribe) generated by these ‘small scale’ industries!! The state of affairs of administration as well as legal system in Bengal can be understood by these ‘small scale industries’!

One of the agendas stated by the 1978 paper published in ‘Social Scientist’ journal by the then Govt of West Bengal was (v) the ‘gradual expansion of the public sector’! May I request the present Govt of West Bengal to let me know what are the measures that have been taken by them to expand ‘gradually’ the public sectors?

I must appreciate the facts that have been brought forward by Dr. Bibhas Saha, the author of the article.

In addition to the analysis reported by Dr. Saha I quote the 1st paragraph of a publication in a journal by Govt of West Bengal in 1978 January: "THE major goals of the Left Front Government over the long run should be: (a) reversal of the trend towards industrial stagnation, (b) arresting the growth of unemployment and providing for increased employment in the industrial as well as agricultural sectors; (c) encouraging the growth of small and cottage industries, (d) lessening the stranglehold of the monopoly houses and multinational firms on the economy of the State, (e) encouragement of indigenous technology and industrial self-reliance, (f) the gradual expansion of the public sector, and (g) increasing the control of the actual producers, that is, the workers, over the industrial sector." [Author: Government of West Bengal, Industrial Policy for West Bengal". Social Scientist, Vol. 6, No. 6/7, Special Number of West Bengal, (Jan. - Feb., 1978), pp. 103-108.]

If one goes through the afore-said paragraph of the quoted article, citizens of India as well as West Bengal will notice a vast anomalous with the state of affairs of Govt of West Bengal. In the next sections, I will try to analyse each of the agendas of the ‘Communist’ Govt. They have not been able till date to (i) 'arrest the growth of unemployment'!!

Rajarhat _NewTown-SaltLake all IT BPO hubs now.

Siliguri & durgapur & asansol within fastest growing urban centers in the country.

So Things r happening.

BUT the Govt. needs to CAUTIOUS Otherwise..........Unwanted incidents like Nandigram may happen which not good for the STATE , The Country also.

If Bengal Shines what will happen?

Exodus of ppl form states like orissa , Bihar, etc will be less to South, WEST, North of INDIAN in the process lightening the pressure on resources & infrastructure of these regions. Thats good for the COUNTRY.We all know what has happened to Bangalore due to high Pressure.

So lets hope Bengal re industrializes again ..it will only help the Country. Lets whish ALL of InDIA well. All the BEST

It appears from your identical messages in many times that you are living in the fool's paradise! Please read some good, recent research works (published in international journals) on the issue of industrialization, and economy! I guess you need to learn the economy during Lenin in Russia! The acts of CPIM is just like a Feudal Comprador Bourgeois who preaches "Dictatorship of Proletariat" with muscle powers of their Reigimented Stalinist era! I guess you are well aware of the significance of these words!

You are right! Many faculty members of Calcutta University, Jadavapur University, BE College (now university), Rabindra Bharati University, North Bengal Univ, Vidyasagar Univ, Burdawan Univ, and even Biswa Bharati Univ (though it is central univ), are recruited from those who were strong supporters of SFI (students' wing of CPIM), or leaders of SFI during college days! Success of those cadres does not require to obey the minimum standard criteria set out by UGC, AICTE etc! There are cadres in all the posts of Vice-Chancellors of ALL WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITIES too! There are MLAs, Cabinet Ministers of WB Govt, and even lost MLA candidates among professors of those universities! These faculty members, and even non-teaching staffs control the recruitment policies of all West Bengal Universities! If you are RED FLAG person, you will be blessed with a faculty position whatever your calibre is!

Thanks for elucidating a side of CPIM/CPI. They are busy in NETWORKING in all places rather that RE-INDUSTRIALISATION. I guess, CPIM should STOP these STUPID NETWORKING BUSINESS, and curb the 'POWERS' of those power-monger PROFESSOR-CADRES. This Govt should recruit the best faculty members irrespective of political colours! Otherwise a BIG CRUNCH OF GOOD FACULTY MEMBERS IS INEVITABLE in near future!!! CPIM-led Govt of West Bengal should trade off among the parameters of Indian Economy (if they know at all) and draw a good balance of Agricultural land usage and Manufacturing sectors! JAI H

wicked legacy of jyoti basu
by hariyali on Jun 10, 2008 09:32 PM  Permalink

this is wicked legacy of jyoti basu, which buddha has inherited, core of the ruling party is on left and can never be right.. they are crab of bengal (drag down the leg of the one who tries to scale the tub) industrialization is a distant dream. their close friends are bihar helps the rest of inspiration. they want Upens to remain Upens and self distruct. let the ruling continue. Opposition is not competent, they are worst then the ruling. Bengalis 50 years back and now are very different. They lack spine for any revolution.

Whatever growth we will have will only be marginal and never would reach full potential.

Bengal needs to get rid of communist first
by G S on Jun 10, 2008 09:31 PM  Permalink

As long as CPM cadre is there ..they are rigging every election and not letting people vote.
Let is a big blot on Indian political scene, towing chinese line, want India to get de-nuclearized without China doing so. They advocate that we de-nuclearize along with pakistan so that chinese can laugh on us.
They want to keep us weak, no nuclear deal with USA ..do not get close to USA. These leaders need to migrate to China and shout from there.
Why are we electing such leaders ? We need army unit there (and throughly checking if there is free atmosphere or not) in WB during election , then we will how communist win there.

You can re-build as many industries as you want.

Unless you control Islamic birth rate and Islamic immigration from Bangladesh, you will end up losing it all to a greater Islamic Bangladesh. Bengal is facing a silent Islamic takeover.
Only those Muslims should be allowed to live in Bengal, who are willing to revert to Hinduism.

Dear Rishi
You will also have to create an atmosphere within Hinduism whereby reverts are embraced and feel part of the great body of Hinduism. The Communists in Bengal have created a situation where it seems Hindus are more interested in pushing people away than accepting them. Some of the myths Communists spread - Hindus have victimized and oppressed Muslims - this is completely false as prior to British it were Muslims who were in power in Bengal and carried out mass scale conversion thru radical sufis.
