What is a glaring reality is that the whole state is infested with militant public all in the name of politics. Be it festival donations, car parking, land ownership or other issues. Kolkata is gaining pace in economic development but the 'mindset' of people here will never change (atleast in 100 years) Its not the Bengali but the people living here from all ethnicities that share the common laid-back narrow mentality. I feel bad for people of my Dad's generation who could not do much due to the Naxalite movement in the 1970's. But weren't they the deranged youth at that time who patronised it?

Let me also add this. I hope all the investors and industrialists avoid WB like a plague. Tata should say good bye to Nandigram plan and go to other progressive states like Karnataka, Gujarat or Maharashtra. All the commie and leftist traitor states should be avoided. That will teach the people there a good lession.
The Author missed a major point here. The poor people will have to make a huge payment to the communist party for settling disputes. Funniest thing is both parties will have to make payment. Whoever is close to the CPM will enjoy the benefit.
I have lived in Bengal and other parts of India and am convinced there is no other place in India and very few in the world which matches the beauty and serenity of life in Bengal. Sure there are problems - but something about the land, its beauty, air and greenery infuse a inimitable spirit. Lets not forget Bengal is just stepping into industrialization from a largely agrarian society - so most of these problems are not surprising. Rest of India may think Bengal is a dead place, but most people who live there know in the core of their hearts there is nothing closer to heaven than Bengal.
I completely agree with you on your formula on the fact that fair price should be based on the intended end use of the land and not its current use.
Also one could, especially in the case of Communist West Bengal, look at a model of co-opting/co-owning as has been pioneered by Magarpatta City in Pune where not only are the farmers shareholders (proportionate to their land holding) in the development company but have also been offered jobs and employment in the red-development of the area thus ensuring both salary as well as equity income.
Dear Bagus.!! Dont waste your time by beleiving the bubbled offers from CPM.CPM cannot create develpement bcaz The strenghth of CPM is not the peeple but the caders and their hold in co-operative unions and other Sub unions Like DYFI,SFI,CITU etc.If You are really positive on development you should negotiate with this caders. but they wont allow it as most of the caders are living with party sponserd activities.CPM also brainwashed an enterpenure as a criminal and devil infront of its caders. So coming out of this communist culture and to develope a communist Bengal is too difficult.
Buddha came to power. Came a new vision. things started changing. Ex: *W.B. in the top 5-6 IT destinations with names like Wipro,IBM,Tcs, Infosys(in process),etc have set up shop here.
* Huge investments in Iron and steel sector (only behind Orissa -chattisgarh-jharkhand-all iron rich).
* manufacturing sector-Videocon,TVS,Tata,home grown Global automobiles (19,000/- bike), etc hv set up shop.
Rajarhat _NewTown-SaltLake all IT BPO hubs now.
Siliguri & durgapur & asansol within fastest growing urban centers in the country.
So Things r happening.
BUT the Govt. needs to CAUTIOUS Otherwise..........Unwanted incidents like Nandigram may happen which not good for the STATE , The Country also.
If Bengal Shines what will happen?
Exodus of ppl form states like orissa , Bihar, etc will be less to South, WEST, North of INDIAN in the process lightening the pressure on resources & infrastructure of these regions. Thats good for the COUNTRY.We all know what has happened to Bangalore due to high Pressure.
So lets hope Bengal re industrializes again ..it will only help the Country. Lets wish ALL of India well. All the BEST
P.S. Look towards the FUTURE don't get stuck in what Wrongs happened in the Past But surely try & correct them.
Let Projects in SHALBONI (Iron STEEL), NAYACHAR (Chemical HUB), etc come up peacefully Along with the growth of IT-BPO, etc. W.B. will surely come up.
If They want to correct their mistakes , which they are doing, LETS not pull them back like a Even

It appears from your identical messages in many times that you are living in the fool's paradise! Please read some good, recent research works (published in international journals) on the issue of industrialization, and economy! I guess you need to learn the economy during Lenin in Russia! The acts of CPIM is just like a Feudal Comprador Bourgeois who preaches "Dictatorship of Proletariat" with muscle powers of their Reigimented Stalinist era! I guess you are well aware of the significance of these words!

You mention "..........Unwanted incidents like Nandigram may happen which not good for the STATE , The Country also.". So cold blooded killing of 20 poor farmers including females by the police and cadres is just a mere unwanted episode for you. And you are talking big about about well being of the state and the country, when you dont feel bad about persons getting killed by the government some 100 kms from the state capital. West Bengal is among the top 5-6 IT destinations seems like Maldives is in 6th or 7th place in 7 nations SAF games medal tally - how many big cities are there in India for IT - hardly 5-6 - under left rule of 30 years we are 5th or 6th - is it a pride or prejudice? "Siliguri & durgapur & asansol within fastest growing urban centers in the country" - probably you never visited Ahmedabad, Baroda or Mysore. If you really want to see what is over all development is even though the goverment is changing every 5 years, plz visit any of Indian states in the West (including Rajsthan) or South (excluding Kerala) - you will feel ashmed og our state's backwardness under the stable government of 30 years. Who is responsible for these mess up - One of the best Indian State of 1970s, west bengal today becomes one of the under developed state of india under and who presided over this disgraceful downfall - none other than CPM with its 30 years of miss rule. WHAT IS SO WRONG OPPOSTION IS DOING BY OPPOSIING THIS INEEFFICIENT GOVERNMENT? Plz Dont be Mamta phobic.
West Bengal had aleady seen its Ship of Glory sink long back in the 70s, 80s and then 90s.In the 70s even before the Left Front came, the process of sinking for West Bengal started right then due to the rise of Left Front, Naxalism and widespread corruption all over and in the congress. The 'cult' of calling bandhs, road blockade etc and all other means to misuse democracy started then and the manifestations of a sinking Bengal clearly showed. Then came the Left front in the late 70s and is ruling WB since then , finishing off whatever was left. Today due to some superficial efforts of the same Left Front who claim to have 'realised their mistakes' some changes might have occured in the industrial situation as claimed by some.Yet the damage done since 70s is far way from being rectified and repaired. The Left Front is trying to reverse things overnight which they created for 3 decades. How is that possible? Fundamentally - infrastructure, mindset, education sytem and attitudewise,is West Bengal or the people of Bengal ready for a drastic change? I don't think so.West Bengal's problem is a very complicated and complex one. On top of all Bengalees seriously lack in business acumen, most have no capital, are disturbingly lazy and lethargic and are busy in talking useless stuff, besides being politiking and resistant to change. As mentioned ealier, the problem in WB is a very complex one and only God Knows when West Bengal will again rise to be a significant part of India's eco
As West Bengal is suffering from UTTER LAWLESSNESS, I quote Beirne & Hunt (1988) again to elucidate the FATE OF Lenin out of the same type of social crisis: “The need for this form of public law is the major lesson of the history of the first socialist experiment and the contribution to it, with its strengths, its weaknesses, and its silences, of Lenin”!
A comparative study reveals that the resolutions of the First CPIM-led left Govt in West Bengal with that of their State-of-Affairs are conflicting as well as contradictory, which helps generation of a very strong group of opportunists, Nouveau-riche, Kulaks, Comprador Bourgeoisie which have built political party like CPIM / CPI.
I fear that the ‘Communism’ is a ‘lost paradise’ (Buss, 1993)! It will be a research agenda for the social scientists and economists ‘Why the Nouveau-riche Communists selected the soil of West Bengal for their growth? Another research agenda is not far off: ‘How does Global Economic Chain kill the “Marxism” in West Bengal?’
References: 1. Piers Beirne and Alan Hunt, 1988, Law and the Constitution of Soviet Society: The Case of Comrade Lenin. Law & Society Review, Vol. 22, No. 3, pp. 575-614. 2. Terry F. Buss, Marxism is Wrong, and Thankfully, Dead. The Academy of Management Review, Vol. 18, No. 1, (Jan., 1993), pp. 10-11.
The seed of Communism and Marxism had been brought to India during the independence movement against British Raj (beginning of twentieth century)! The very root of the Communist Society was an indicative towards “a non-legal social order” (Please vide Beirne & Hunt, 1988, Thesis 5)!
“This theoretical grounding of Lenin's concept of the dictatorship of proletariats (DoP) provides a key for unlocking both the coherence and the contradiction of his views on the role of law in the socialist transition. The coherence of his views can be expressed in the form of five theses (I quote only thesis 1 & 5 for limitation of space): Thesis 5: Communist society will be a non-legal social order. Only the existence of classes and social inequality necessitates legal institutions and mechanisms. Because communism abolishes the conditions that produce law and also greatly simplifies and extends participation to all citizens, general requirements for legal regulations or processes are unnecessary.”
The above thesis clearly depicts the very root of CCCP (old Russia)! The case of Nandigram and other places in Bengal indicate “tension between state and civil society”. Separation of power is inevitable for those nouveau-riche & Comprador Bourgeoisie Marxists. In the words of Beirne & Hunt (1988) “The separation of powers, and with it the role of law, are sustained by the tension between state and civil society.”
