Govt. has to respond to people first
by Thing on Jun 06, 2008 02:43 PM  Permalink

So are you saying that the govt. should not respond to people's needs? We live in a democracy and if the govt. makes changes based on feedback it is receiving from it's elected reps. what is wrong with that? Instead you want a facade of democracy to push so-called reforms which benefits some people economically at the cost of the majority?

free trip to China
by C.V.RAMAN IYER on Jun 06, 2008 02:32 PM  Permalink

let everyone contribute to send these communits to China for 5 years. This visit will have multipurpose - Indian communists cannot open their mouth - otherwise will be shot dead. In the meantime, India can think of becoming superpower by 2020 by reforming the system and emerge equivalent or superior to China - in the absence of communists from Indian soil (paid holiday)and thus no obstruction in progress at every step.

dont complain about subsidies
by Dhorabh on Jun 06, 2008 02:23 PM  Permalink

The goal of a govenrment is the welfare of its people and not profit maximisation. Subsidies are a neccessary for community welfare. All Developed countries have subsidies - the amount of subsidy for agriculture in USA and EU amount to a billion dollars a day.

If Bhattacharya were from a financially challenged background, he may not be complaining about subsidies. Please discuss fiscal policies inside a classroom.

Real problem is with Left parties and with their age old concepts.People (left) all over world are changing except our so called leftists. No government will progress with these mindsets people supporting the government. For every step these leftist will pull back two steps.

Main political parties of India, Congress and BJP have been imposing American globalization on Indian people for last 16 years. Both parties claim the economic policy has 'human face'. The truth is that nobody sees any 'dog face' even. Unemployment, poverty & price rise are sky-rocketing.

You cannot have a free market where prices are subject to Govt approval
by Pranav Desai on Jun 05, 2008 07:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

That just leads to doomsday and there are prime examples of this...Mexico, Asian Tigers etc.
When we had embraced market based economy why take a step back?
