This exercise of discussing how things were cheap in the past is typical of retired people who like to tell these stories to their grand kids!
How is recounting the past going to help us now?!
Anyway the current prices are the result of India and China's phenomenal growth!
So it is appropriate that they pay for these increases in the price of fuel!
On the other hand, all this could have been avoided if (1) This useless government had planned for this growth before opening the floodgates AND (2) The Indian people had a little more common sense and understood that if everybody starts buying cars, two things are going to happen - (a) Fuel is going to cost more and (b) There will be no space left on the roads to drive these cars!!

Rs 18....i used to travel in my scooty to school in 96...boy my entire week used to go by in Rs 50.
Why to think of the price some few decades ago. The petrol price was just half of what it is today just 4-5 years back. Hats off to the govt!! If you can reduce your tax, then i am sure the petrol prices wouldn't have gone up to where it stands today.
i remeber filling up my scooter at rs 9 a litre in 1985 and that time it would still seem so costly today may be for this sole reason i think the resale value of cars etc shall come down whereas the cost of material required to make a car are constantly going up god knows how much a person should earn nowadays so as to sustain himself without luxury

During sept 1965 Pretrol cost was just 85 Paise (at that time one gram gold was 12 rupees and 50 Paise) only. In 1972 when I purchased Scootter, petrol cost was One Rupee and 43 Paise only and gold price was Rs.17 and 50 paise only. dhayanandhan.
