CPI(M) by not withdawing support from the Govt. at centre and by calling bandh in states of West Bengal, Tripura etc against price hike harassing common people has exposed themselves of their double standard role. Perheps this may be the reason why their party is limited to two to three states only inspite of being one of the oldest political parties of the country. They should stop thinking that people are fool, if they want to expand their party to more states and if they want to increase number of MPs in Parliament.
The minimum bus fare in CPI(M) ruled West Bengal is R 4/- , which is maximum in India. In no metropolitan city the minimum bus fare is so high. While in AP and Tamil Nadu the State Trasport Corporations run in profit, in West Bengal the State Transport buses hardly ply and most of the business in made by private players. They use outdated engines, pollute a lot, under-pay their conductors, make them work from dawn to dusk. But still the Left front government looks the other way because these bus owners contribute a lot to the CPI(M) party fund. Where roads are narrow, air pollution is extremely high, the transport minister keeps on giving license to buses in new routes to generate revenue for their party. No doubt the State Transport runs in losses, they always run empty buses that hardly stands in the bus stops, because many a times the state bus drivers are paid well by private players.
The Left Front government has always cried foul against privatization but in West Bengal the state transport is most privatized. Their party fund has sources and means which would put Bangaru Laxman to shame.
They call themselves people's party, but charge their poor people the maximum bus fare.
And to confuse people they are calling bandhs. Now they can fool the people by telling them that all the problems they will face is due to the oil price hike. They know very well how to sell well-baked half-truths and that's why they are in the business successfully for 30 years.
As mentioned previously by myself, Mr. Karat Inc. will never withdraw support from UPA Govt! CPIM is a local/regional party; and, thus, they pretend to be a national party while they hold the big Circus aligned with Congress in centre! On the other hand, they are blood suckers in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura! My personal view is to uproot this menace from India so as to have a prosperous economic as well as social life and to curb the corruption, nepotism, hooliganism, terrorism, specially in the Eastern part of India!
Why not Left parties start a movement such as Bhooporatam (fight for the land) which it has earlier done also in the case of price hike,to gain support of support of people instead of just protests,so that it can win some more seats in the next elections and again support government at the centre as an ally.
My economics is very poor. However, I have a few suggestions which I am planning to start following myself from today. 1. Use my car & bike to the minimum. 2. Walk as much as I can. 3. Reduce the LPG usage by cooking fewer dishes. 4. Save energy by switching off fans and lights if not in use. 5. Use public transport. I am not sure if this would help but I feel that the demand for import would definitely come down for oil and have a cascading effect to bring down the prices. If by raising Rs5.00 has brought down the number of customers at the petrol pumps resulting in lesser demand thereby brining down the oil prices by 96 cents, think about the effect it will have if we all try and consciously save energy at all fronts. Please correct my logic or give more suggestions. Jai Hind
40% of all government revenue, both at the state and centre, is accounted by petroleum products. So a reduction in revenue implies less revenue for running the government, development programs etc
Despite that, the central government has done just that - marginally affecting a cut. The question is whether state governments will follow.
The base price of Rs 22 per litre which are being touted is the subsidized price. You cannot subsidize for ever - otherwise like in 1990 - our fiscal situation will be so bad that we need to pledge our gold.
India is a net oil& gas importer. Leave alone countries like India, even net oil exporting countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria etc have undertaken steep internal pricing of oil products. In fact, riots broke out in Indonesia following this step!
The PM should have increased the price even further. Unless petrol finds its true market value, we do not value the product and alot of waste occurs. So a price hike is the right step in the era of dwindling supply and rising prices of oil as it curtails wasteful consumption of oil.
The impact is immediate - Indonesia, Malaysia & India raising prices, was the trigger for oil futures to start crumbling on the prospect of reduced demand. Once price of oil is reasonable, the government can reverse the hike. Once global oil price retreats, global commodity prices maybe expected to follow suit, lowering global inflation
The problems what we are facing today are the same problems that we faced during the previous BJP regime. Naturally, the elections are not the solution. We, the people, should force the government to restructure the tax patterns which can provide a lot of relief. And there should be full stop to the tax holiday enjoyed by the Reliance.. Even after earning 10 thousand crores in 2007-08, we are yet to receive a single paisa from the poor Reliance..
