India's Oil Consumption
by Anand Wadikar on Jul 24, 2008 01:23 PM  Permalink

Our oil consumption could be drastically reduced if only the infrastructure is rapidly strengthened. The tardy progress in this direction in places like say Mumbai is pathetic. The trafic moves at snails pace on most roads, especially major arterial roads. The vehicles are made to crawl in first gears. Public transport like Buses and Suburban trains are no more made for even able bodied, you require real muscles to board and alight from them, forget comfort of seats. Project after project is announced, gets underway with a lot of fan fare and media glare. 'Bear with us for better tomorrow' boards start greeting us. But our pain continues for ages. Some times I wonder whether we are the same people who have created Mumbai-Pune Express way, Konkan Railway etc

India's GDP and per capita income is terribly low. We are very wasteful. Look at the silly marriages.

Yeah silly marriages .... its no wrong to splurge on say a big car ... a vacation in goa ... foriegn vacations ..... when can u get a shirt for say 300 rs buy a branded shirt for say 2000 rs. Branded jeans for rs 2000 ... parties in big pubss ... bowling alleys ,,, snooker rooms ... its shame to drink coconut water but splurge 15 bucks of coke tin ,.....
what i am telling is people who are having only spending it.. same wise marriage also people who cannot afort go to a temple or respective place of worship and get married ....

so no need to find mistakes in marriage institutions where man with money spluges on everything he can afford to ...
please can u stop going to movie in multiplex and spend 200 for ticket and 50 for coke and popcorn , instead go to decen theatre and spend say 150 bucks in all .. ot stop wearing PEPE jeans and Adiddas shoes instead wear bata shoes ...
if ur that kind surely marriages are spluges ...

USA alone consumes almost as much as the next top 6 countries!
by raj on Jul 24, 2008 12:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

and to think of it - all of their manufacturing is in china, a lot of its bpo and computer operations are in india, russia, etc etc. imagine if all that were computed. USA is a resource hog! india consumes one tenth of their consumption, and more importantly we are about 4 times as big as them in population terms. comparatively they use 40 times more energy! damn shame that bush then tries to blame india and china.

That is their problem, Russia is also a very cold country as is Canada. Both have harsher winters than the US. There are parts of India that have very harsh winters.

Most of the Indians are so poor that it is very hard for them to arrange two square meal a day. How can they afford heating or cooling of their houses. Besides, very few Indians live in proper houses.

Go and do some reading before commenting. Crude is the mother of most of plastics, fertilizers, petro-chemicals etc. Petrol or diesel is just few odd items extracted from crude. So saving on petrol means very little for Middle East.

Why show traffic jam in India.
by Harish Udupa on Jul 24, 2008 10:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is very bad on rediff's part to show traffic jam in Inida where as for other countires you have shown some nice monuments. Don't the other countries have traffic jams. I heard China is worst than India as far as traffic jams are concerned.
