Tata Nano wouldn't even hold on US highways. It will either be blown by the wind or other cars zipping around it. It doesn't have muscle to run on expressways, doesn't have basic features such as a/c ( in 100000 model) and passenger side mirrors (for god's sake!).

The Tata Nano is a major development from an engineering standpoint and a product that has come out quite well. Hats off to the engineers at Tata for this.
There is no comparison between the Nano and the Smart as the Nano has been build to a certain price(so there are sacrifices) and the Smart is a fashion accessory(calling it a car is a bit too much). Its a great city runabout and extremly safe too(See Crash test ratings). The design and size makes it ideal for battery power and the size is great for small roads in Europe.
For India the price would make it unviable for sale here. Also the India's mind set considers bigger cars more prestigious and premium. So cars like the Smart,Golf GTI,Volvo C30 etc will not find a market here. But again there could be individual imports by those who want to be different. My personal pick.....The VW Golf GTI.....hmmmmmm...Smokin

smart car has been around for ages, even before nano. and really there is no comparison here at all, smart car has far superior trim, engine and build quality.
