Mumbai will always be Indias business capital
by pankaj m muthe on Jul 12, 2008 02:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think there is a case in point when one talks of better infrastructure vis-a vis airports, metro etc in Delhi because Mumbai and Maharashtra has never been on the priority of those in power in Delhi when majority of tax collections to the centre go from Mumbai. A similar scenario in the IT capital,Bangalore. Btw many PEOPLE in USA know Bangalore more than Delhi or Mumbai. So why have companies still be in Mumbai or Bangalore is because of the mentality of the North. While you can invite businesses to set up by sops, to sustain them requires a psyche which only Mumbai gives. Can a woman walk freely and without fear at 3 am in Delhi? In Mumbai, no one bothers. And if Delhi has a better, swankier airport by 2010, wait till the new International airport starts in Navi Mumbai!

Dear Mahesh, Let us see things in a broader angle. See Delhi and Mumbai as a part of India and let us be proud to see all loacations taking part in the growth and it is good to see development spreading to all parts of the country. Even Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune are developing at a faster pace than before. Since we can freely move on to any of these places, why to divide India into various Zones. Just to mention, I am born an brought up in another State where there is no such growth as we seen in Mumbai or Delhi. At least you guys are lucky to be a part of Mumbai or Delhi.

Same ghisa pita reason. Dhaval bhai, most of the income tax paid in Mumbai is earned elsewhere, in Gujarat for example. The Tata's earn is all over India, including Jharkhand. It's Mumbai's historical legacy that ensures the tax share, but for your info, even that is going down every year. And not just Delhi, even places like Meerut are growing better.

mumbai still best
by Mumbai on Jul 12, 2008 01:53 PM  Permalink

Mumbai

Mumbai Mayor has time to go & check Hooka parlours where people seat & relax. But no time for people struggling in Mumbai road traffic b'coz of poor infrastructure potholes.

Home Minister will close Dance Bar where people enjoy. Can they go & stop crimes which are increasing day by day.

Just Minister are making money by showing people a Dream of Shanghai.

& Cabinet minister do false commit & sending all there money to Delhi instead of mumbai

If our minister stop talking & can spend a little bit for mumbai then it really be world class city.

Any govt. come & go still the topics are same.

1. Hawkers still exist

2. Local Train Problem just talk nothing else

3. Even they are not able to remove slums near Airport

etc.........

True- Mumbai is lagging behind
by Ziz on Jul 12, 2008 01:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The reason for faster growth of Delhi region is becuase of
1. Central govt which gives 10 times more preference to NCR over all other cities combined. Consider the fuel prices, infrastructure projects in NCR, and indifference to infra projects in Mumbai inspite of contributing 40% of countries taxes.
2. All MNC's for whom it makes sense to be near the capital city of a corrupt country than a financial center of a third world country.
3. Inefficient and uneducated local politicians of Maharashtra

Mumbaiwalas are the most indiffrent, when it comes to corruption. Thus, the cost of doing everything in Mumbai, be it infrsatructure, or even the smallest house job, is 20-30% more in Mumbai. One can understand it in a newly established place like Gurgaon, but in an established city, one expects better.
USe RTI to see the amount of money that has been spent on infrastructure in Mumbai, and you will wonder where the money went. So forget asking for more money or blaming the centre, people need to wake up first.

Delhi is better
by surekha on Jul 12, 2008 01:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I AM SORRY TO HEAR SUCH COMMENTS. One gentleman went up saying that Mumbai opens up its gutter. Mumbai , being the financial capital of India has fed millions of people. Centre takes aways 40 % country's total income tax out of this city and in return nothing gets back to Mumbai. No wonder then this city than when someone says this city has become dying city.
politicians at Delhi are responsible for this as they dont want Mumbai to go ahead of DELHI whereas politicians in Maharashtra are responsible for their enunchness nature.
I think it is our all Mumbaikar's responsibility to assist to regain its statuture as financial capital of India

I like mumbai, but don't accept this logic that mumbai gives 40% of income tax the reason is my dear friend most of the big corporates has their head office at mumbai they file their return in mumbai but dear they earn all their money from different parts of country and not only from mumbai.

Amen to that.High share of income tax needs to be recognised as a historical legacy. More importantly, Mumbai has benefitted big time in terms of the people and jobs it has created for them.

Rule out Hyderabad's growth
by Raju on Jul 12, 2008 01:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dont worry about Hyderabad. I dont think anybody will be willing to set up their businesses here too soon.
We have a 2 hour power cut here everyday for the past couple of weeks. It sucks. I havent experienced such a situation for the past 10 years I've been living here. Blame this incapable, useless Congress government.
Does any other city have this problem ? I dont think so.

congress in 4 years has undid everything. Just caste and religion votes thats it. Does even one minister standup and say this is my 4 year plan which i took up and completed till this much. when cm himself is a goon what more can be expected. Now chiranjeevi will come with jimmicks, reddy nee peeka kostha type and andhraites will vote for him. I being telugu lost charm to come back to hyderabad, such is the pathetic stage. kcr damaged for 4 years saying telangana and amassed wealth by doing coolie. Police is highly corrupt. Judiciary in AP is worst than bihar and these are not my words but figures of pending cases. Had judiciary been tight things might have been good but unfortunately all judges are highly and extremely corrupt. Family courts have becomes brokerages for judges. I can name judges like radhakrishnaiah ex family court judge amassed 5 houses in 3 years at hyd. Present judge ramakrishniah is doing the same of amassing wealth. proofs given to registrars does no good for corruption is from top to bottom in AP. Friends live any where but not in AP. If you want to live in AP hand over judges to naxalites for equal justice.

Also the population of the city has gone through the roof with people from other parts of the state and the country coming in for jobs.
The pollution and congestion has risen pretty badly. There is more garbage on the street than ever before.
I think its better for any city in India not to grow after a certain level as it will be ruined by the massive unchecked influx of millions of people and the inadequate infrastructure cannot support them.

if migrants population don come to big cities then these places will never grow up beyond a certain point.Growth needs expertise, professionals, cheap labour which local population alone cannot provide. Remove migrant population frm MUmbai, delhi, bangalore and they will be nowhere.
