chandu allows farmers from south india to get most benifit. WHile farmers from punjab haryana get minimum despite they are the one putting wheat/paddy max in nation kitty. Politics is all about provichial thinking now. No national tyhinking exist
farmers want a regular water supply - but we build canals cos the construction of canals will give enough funds to be pilfered by the politicos. instead build small bunds and lakes all over the country.
teach them drip irrigation, rely on themselves not the government - but the politicos want farmer to rely on election manifestos and be at their whims. cos they need a vote bank.
farmers need to rely on less pesticides and fertilisers with modern techniques. they wont do it - cos the farmer then stop relying on the "system" that politicos built.
farmers need immunity from vagaries of nature. in the days to come we'll see less forests and more el ninos and floods and natural disasters. but these natural disasters will only drive the farmers to the political class.
its a systematic trap set by the political class. we sit on the sidelines and comment.
RE:subsidies for farmers are required - but not this way

to cite some wasteful examples. i was in interior karnataka near shringeri - there was a small bridge built which costed some 80k then. funny thing was that the bridge was never opened until the politicos came to open the bridge. the cost of the minister' tour was 4.5 lakhs. thats stupidity we have in india.
another example - people in a village of koteshwar got fed up of politicos promising forever. and they cleaned up a tank themselves. people worked in shifts.
the other example somewhere near/in bihar, where a railway station - built, manned and run by the villagers themselves cos the railways thought the village couldnt afford them 50 tickets a day, and running it wasnt viable. for the villagers - they dint have any access by road, unless they travelled a great deal by foot.
accountability is key. and pressure by people is a must. at least know how abt whats going on around is a must. we are complacent. which is why we deserve a rotten bunch of politicians and cops. unless we demand better - we wont get anyone better.
Chidambaram, inspite of being hailed, is one of the worst FMs we have had. He is profligate and wants to tax and spend. Most of his spending has been in providing fish to some people, instead of teaching them how to fish.
Instead of wasting 70,000cr on farm weaver and another 200,000 cr on Oil subsidy, if he had spent that amount on setting world class education and research institutes, in 15-20 years, we'd have had best in the world workforce!!
But, the focus of Chidambaram and Congress is too narrow. No vision.

Chidambaram is a south Indian name.... you seem to have mistaken it to mean "Finance Minister"... :-)
Sure there was a "Finance Minister" during BJP regime, but he was not Chidambaram.
Going by the concept of outsourcing - which states that do only your core business, and outsource whatever else you can't excel at, BJP might employ those tactics to increase the government's efficiency and effectiveness... It should be welcomed, as you have rightly done with your cheerful endorsement..

@ Albert.. What a ridiculous comment.. does not even know.. that Chidambaram was never with BJP.... And rest of his comment does not make any sense.. He is trying to divert attention from the 3 C's Culprits - Congress and COmmies

probably you or your kid could not get a free govt college seat..right?? your plan will not help India at the moment Mr... it may help in 5 years when those people pass out from colleges and schools but by then taxes and oil prices and other stuff including coke that you drink would have touched sky high prices...

Good. Your logic is excellent. We should immediately stop building any new colleges...
Wonder why they din't take your advice 60 years back, and still built some stupid colleges, not realizing that by the time the students will come out, the price of coke will sky rocket.. :-)
All are vote bank politics. Actual loan wavier may not cross 20,000cr. how may people are going to get real information from the farmer. now itself farmers started crying and fuming. I am sure they are going to kick the FM and PM silently. These politiican allways talk and and do nothing. but poor and farmers does the thinks with out talks and leave others to talk "what happened to the last government, people din't vote they did many things like 70,000 cr farm loan wavier, gdp 9%, lot of over bridges, lot of infrastructure projects; what a poor Indians, etc". if the inflation is a silent killer for poor, i am sure poor and farmers are silent killer for the government. that is what happening in India.
in australia we say - "which bank... they are all ba**ards" they rip us so much... they can bear this...plus i wish govt did not provide any credit to the banks...
