The reality is that there are many guys in TCS who crib and whine but don't have the guts to pack up their bags and join an organization where the work and hours are demanding and the culture is cutthroat and ruthless...simply put, the environement in TCS is not at all competitive and those who spend time here can't cope in a tough environement...so they crib and indulge in self pity but are really helpless to bring about change.....
The really good TCS employees are thosde who take interest in their work and never bother too much about pay...the pay is decent but never in line with market average...
The bottomline is that if you are after money, you should never have got into TCS...so don't crib and make a loser out of yourself....

Arre yaar, it is fair....profits have been stagnant cos of rising operational expenditures..... There is an expected cash flow which if the company does not meet, the market reacts by giving a thumbs down to the share price...so to exceed the expectations, they had to initiate a salary cut.....

I heard Ratan Tata is giving signal that Chandra can't become CEO merely because Ram is promoting him as he is related to him.
Out of this frustration they took this step to make hungama in public and make company difficult for next one to come from outside as CEO.
For all those complaining people out here who say that IT jobs require more work but pay is less, here is something that might interest you. An IT professional in US earns about USD 6000 per month but a graduate student in a university earns USD 1000 per month and he is required to work about 14 hours a day including weekends and holidays. I am sure there are worse cases than a graduate student in the world. If you have real interest in your work (>70% interest), you will never complain. If you are here to earn money only and the interest factor in your work is meagre, suffer.
Who is forcing you to stay in TCS?? If you crib, no compulsion on you to stay...why don't you join IBM or Accenture where you will get paid well but where your job will be on the line almost everyday??
simple....performance oreinted culture and job insecurity couple with good pay...
Lousy pay but job security and a relaxed work environment where you don't have to worry about your job everyday...

Stop living in dreams Ashish. TCS has started to fire employees. So they have sold out their only remaining USP. Very low salaries with no security. What a combo. Atleast IBM and accenture do not pretend to be the same.

Actually people are not cribbing. They only feel that there is no transperency in making such cut. 1.Why did not they told their target of EVA before the quarter 2.Why did they hide the facts when declaring results 3.Why is it not discussed with employees before Main and important is 4.Why did not they increased salary when it crossed the expectations

Well said Ashish!!! The people in TCS (I am not talking about all), just crib and complain, but they never have the guts to get out and join another company where the work is more demanding. The people are not technically competant, they become managers at the age of 24(what a phenomenon) without knowing the abcd of management and they become technically and managerially uncompetent. These people cannot survive in any other company. These people just play unbelievable politics. Many real good people have already moved out of TCS. They never waited for a salary cut. So don't crib and if you have the capability, just get out!!!
Another thing is, there is no transparency in what TCS management does. For a salary increment letter or a promotion letter, it takes months, but a salary cut letter came almost at the same time the news was announced. What an accracy!!! one of the worst management team ever in any company.
Here is the real story... TCS Q3 results show a revenue growth of 5% but profit growth is stagnant at 1200 crores....so what do they do... they cut employee salary to raise 90 crore which gives them a growth of 7% so market is happy.... senior management hold a lot of shares so they too are happy.... only the poor employee suffers.. now next is retrenchment which is going on in full swing.. latest figures 2000 asked to leave in the past 3-4 months.. they are spoiling the whole TATA brand.... Time for Ratan Tata to step in...

Does these discussion have any impact to TCS employee??. If yes then it usefull, otherwise why we r discussion for someone who worries more about job security. then other parameters.
This is a wrong move by TCS. Infact this would never happen in another TATA company. TCS is the only company that is run in a non TATA style. All other TATA companies , employees are the king .
TCS cannot inflate manager salaries when the going is good and have foot soldiers suffer when things go bad. This is bad management. Why not just reduce expectations? Can any company make profits all the time? there will be good and bad times. You don't punish when the going is bad and do nothing when its good ( or rather only the management enjoys the fruits).
If it goes this way there should be a MASS quitting .. only then will they learn a lesson.
I was a part of this company once upon a time. You will get all kinds of encouragement everytime to leave the company. The treatment meted out to the general employee is pathetic. Stay there if you really have any interest otherwise use it as a 'launching pad'. Return the same treatment what you are getting.

Good point - why should the individual be a bonded labour? This is true in many companies - sometimes in the guise of a retention bonus as well where you are asked to stay for a given time in return for the bonus (which was meant to retain you - but it is actually the bond that is retaining you). Such practices abound in the industry. we are just being exploited, that's it.
This is expected and may continue in future with other indian IT companies as well. As the rupee is increasing and US is slow, most of the indian IT companies are making money in dollar conversion; so it is normal. I think indian IT salary stabalization is starting as indian IT people seen only hikes and it's time for us to see the other part in near future.

We welcome salary cuts if there is transparency. There is no transparency in this descition. When declaring results TCS Management hidden the truths. They gave dividend/Bonus for Share holders. TCS did not increased the salaries when EVA / Profits rose in previous quarters. They can cut salaries but this time there is fairness and lack of transparency

Agree to an extent. But actually the decision making and management people are there to run the company and they expect devedends and get more money. Ultimately it comes to running cost where headcount and salary of the each resource comes into picture. You see the person who initiated this salary cut might have got his salary doubled this year.;)

It's not Normal it's called Greedy or greediness. Can't they just lower Expectations?
