TCS has said that it would affect the "Variable Pay". This is typically the bonus. This is usually around 8-10% over and above the salary.. So all that is happening is that they are getting a lower bonus.. This happens in all companies every year depending on performance. The variable pay is a reality in the senior management levels. But they are a smaller cream who are directly responsible for the numbers.
So the whole article is more a wordplay rather than anything substantive.
I have been through some messages in rediff reg the TCS Salary cut. I have also been through some reputed newspapers today wherein some the tope IT companies have stated that they dont find any reason for a salary cut. Since TCS pays the variable pay in advance and when the targets are not met, they are now trying to compensate for this by slashing the salary. Yes there has been some inflation in this sector for which the common man has also been affected. However after having worked in both IT and non IT sector, I feel that the guys in IT sector have to slog out much more than their peers in the Non IT sector. Non wonder, in IT the average retirement age is much lesser than their peers in non IT sector. People cannnot take the stress for a very long period too. Not to hurt anyone, but in Non IT you are not working under so much stress as in IT. Hence one should not feel bad if the IT guys are paid a little more.

I am sorry Sanjeev...I and my friends working in Aircraft Engine design in Rolls-Royce...When compare to IT field we are getting less pay. Our jobs is really tough for doing calculations. I had experience in software company too. Please don't say Non-IT people having less stress than IT people.

I always wonder combination of engineering and IT should be beneficial and command higher salary. But it appears that they are getting less.
It's perfectly fine. I do not see any problem in it. When company was making good profits then it also gave bonus and huge performance incentive. That time no one cried?
For sales guys this is very common. When they and their organisations do well they get good money, when both of them don't do well then no one gets any bonus or incentive.

balls to TCS Salary cut. They will face attrition and suffer. The economy is booming so are the needs of middle class. They simply cannot screw up the happiness.Being no.1 means not in turnover, it has to come in mindset also. They are starting a pessimestic trend i think.

can u show some instance when TCS has shared its big fortune with its employees in it's hey days?
It never does. 90 croroes is no money to them can't they forgo it for the sake of its employees??
Just creating hype out of nothing. the variable pay s usually 10% of total pay. In most of companies it happens that when company gains profits it pays this part higher by 5-10% similarly if it looses employees also have to bear the setback by similar %age. Till date IT companies were in profits, so nobody botheres even when the companies were sharing their profits. now companies are bearing losses so everybody seems interested in checking their salary statements. this is usual and nothing to worry about. Same trend would follow again when companies start showing profits.
Resession in USA mean jobs cut in US, hence people in USA will be ready to work at lower salary, and outsourcing to India can be done if we can bag the contract at lower cost, which in turn will require salary cut or loss of employment in India - hope this is clear to all IT people " hence work more " - Deepak Bhat

recession in usa means job cut in usa and lower salary too.If it is outsourced to india it means they need to get at same cost as before, not below it.This are simple business fundas. This is not a barber's shop.

This is surely a glipse of future... For long there were inflated payments in the IT sector and the main reason was the Dollar and Rupee exchange rate. Has anyone noticed the trend that Indian doctors are prefering to come back to India, esp. specialists, and settle down here itself? The reason is the same, payment in dollar/pound/rial/dinar terms remains same while ruppee earnings here have increased. Same way these tech guys were earning more due to the differential which has closed down now. They were getting AMERICAN SALARIES in India. So in effect they will be getting normal salaries and dont you worry the prices of real estate will come down in a short time! A coffee and a sandwitch in Hyderabad CyberCity Barista cost Rs 180/- while in Kanpur the combo costs Rs. 100/-. In effect everything evens out in the end. What is most important is that Indian Babus are increasing their salaries in the garb of these salaries through 6th pay commision, WILL THEY ROLL BACK THEIR HIKE? This will be an inflationary pressure which we all hard working people in private sector will have to subsidize! Kapil
I believe a salary cut across all IT companies would be good. The living standard of the employess would not be affected even a bit. A huge amount of their salary which is going in paying Housing loan EMI and House rent would be reduced as the rents and property prices would automatically come down.
This would be better for people from non IT fields too. IT people will still be able to satisfy their ego as their salary would be more than others and their lifestyle remains same as rents and EMIs also come down.
