Indian IT companies yet to move up in Value chain
by Indian on Jan 31, 2008 07:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Indians IT companies need t grow in mindset from Low cost to high value addition, this is what IBM doing, IBM and MS and other top companies surviving in US from almost 30 yrs in spite of Paying 100K USD salaries at min level, main problem is our IT companies is not able to come out of cheap labor mantra and still hanging with IT application and maintenance contracts, which is low level in value chain and out companies could not do really well in high end consulting, High end consulting is highly profitable and revenue generation opportunity but our IT biggies and greats don%u2019t want to pay high for high end consultants and quality never comes at cheap%u2026..we need to realize this.

Mr. Indian for your kind information, I have worked with IBM in past & according to me they are no different then just oppurtunist....by which I mean they try to grab each & every money spinning deal even if its a low end job like Data uploading...And as far as variable pay is concerned it depends on the individual performance as well as company's performance & is variable depending on the how much target is acheived....that's the reason it is called variable pay....

Hi Nandish, part of the deals some times even IBM need to accept low end work but at the end of the we can't compare IBM and HP with Indian IT companies, they are far far ahead in innovation and real development, also FYI IBM has various Line business units, may be you are in maintenance roles, intention is not to hurt u but IBM has many divisions in India do all the crap work and they do have very high end unitis

TSC type companies, decided to cut their employee salary, what happens in other companies, I think, if company have not forseen the future and planning for their employees, the goodwill and faith of the company may down. It is well known that employer changing habit in IT sector is high,

Sanjeev, its the media who has hyped this...the cutting & increment of variable pay happens each & every year and for each & every company...so basically its your luck if you are paid more than variable or atleast equal to varibale. In fact, my previous Indian company paid me average 110% in every quarter & 120% one quarter then what should I say here ? So be ready for both the ways.

Well Sanjeev, I am not sure what is this "excess payment" you are talking about. However when TCS had done good on EVA front about 1.5yrs ago it had given a bonus to the good performers. It was almost three times the amount it is cutting now.

by Shyam on Jan 31, 2008 06:48 PM  Permalink

It is very normal..all companies give the variable pay as per the company performance or individual unit performance..so in nutshell,it is not a salary cut..its the the cut in payment of variable pay..please dont get it wrong..neways TCS was never a good payer as far as salary is concerned, it is this componet which they used to keep people happy and since profit is less, they cant sustain it..no need to worry for other company guys!

Mr.Higher caste,
100% OBC n BC's in India work for paltry Rs.100/- wages just to keep their body alive, which keeps your economy buyont in construction and infrastructure sector. You have enjoyed reservation of 5000 years, tumko mirchi kyon lagti hai 50 sal ka miniscule reservations in 10% percent of employment area.

In the 50 years of reservations a lot of BC / SC / STs have come up in education sphere. Reservation will be more meaningful if some strong criteria for identifying these people and eliminating them from the reservations is evolved. And let the reservations continue for the other people to whom it has not reached. BTW the topic was on TCS salary cut. WhoTF started the god damn caste problem here?!

Drama to exploit employee.
by paul on Jan 31, 2008 06:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its drama TCS is doing to exploit employees more with showing recession pictures to engineers.

Did TCS paid extra when it was earning huge in last 10 years, these companies have billions of dollors as reserve what they are doing with taht ?

None of the top 10 IT companies re[ported decline as compared to last quarter.
TCS is company who used to send engineers on B1 for technical purpose and earning
millions, where did that money go.

Its so simple, they want to create fear so that attrition will go down and at the same
time they want to pay less with getting the more work done.

If tehy are not able to meet prfits why the hl they don't do lay off ?
