AWFUL ARTICLE
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Jan 19, 2008 03:07 AM  Permalink

It is simply beyond my imagination how Rediff can publish such awful articles. Who cares PhD are renewed or not? All the society wants are that PhD holders should be able to contribute in their field for the society. If they can not, eventually they will have a natural death.

In USA, promotion from assistant professor to associate professor goes through a tough process of evaluation. Lot of publication, research and funding is necessary in order to become associate professor. It is shocking to know that in India, merely attending an orientation program can make an assistant professor to associate professor. If that is the quality of thinking of the author, then he does not deserve the right to advise on this subject or the rediff should not publish such nonsensical articles.

It is a good idea
by True Indian on Jan 19, 2008 02:57 AM  Permalink

It is a good idea to have a regular exams but not to only one profession. It should be applied to each and every field. Even, in USA they have a system like tenure track assistant professor. A similar system would be helpful in India also. In India once you will get a job yo are all set. If you can do some politics in the office you will be promoted no matter what your performance is.. The worst scenario one will see in case of the candidates selected through quota. I think every body will have several experience in dealing such things. It is really tough to deal with a SC/ST/OBC officer now a days especially after the use of computer. Even a bank manager doesn't know how to operate a computer. There should be some exam for these guys also for the promotion. One is getting a job in quota still it is OK but gettig promotion is really bad. SO long our society will not change performance based jobs and promotions in all profession the quality of service we are getting from all sectors will be in such low standard.
