nano- lets keep it wrapped
by sanjay agarwal on Jan 14, 2008 07:16 PM  Permalink

I think too mych is being said and argued for the machine which has still not see roads. Evry crit should be answred the day its rolled on streets. Yes one fact remains, This is not innovation. yes I firmly believe this, Innovation is not bringing the cost down by any means. Innovation would have been if car would have costed 1 lac, and still would have run on battery. that is innovation...yes this is an engineering feat and it should be honoured and respected and awarded, but when tbhe car sees road, only then. Also other point I want to make is that there is no comparison with 2 wheeler, wheather car costs 1 lac or more. 2 wheeler is 2 wheeler and has its own advantacge and disadvantage. car is car. parking of 2 wheeler costs 5 rs, while car costs 20 rs. car has its own maintenance issues etc etc. so its just not initial cost but its cost of running finally on road. finally the car is always more dangerous and unsafe if its small and also light. As the car is a box on raod, any hit from Tata truck is more likely to drag it down..so Tata should also try maing their trucks and buses more safer on roads.

We need the Rs 1 Lakh Car because of the following reasons
by Raveesh Mehra on Jan 14, 2008 07:13 PM  Permalink

1) We want to have a GREEN REVOLUTION in cars
2)It is the best step forward in combating global warming.
3) We want to show the world that we are a low cost manufacturing country and at the same time we don't care about global warming because we would be the least affected by it.
4)India's population growth rate is the lowest in the world
5)Density of population is lowest in India
6)Disposable income is declining with the 25 crore middle class and the other classes.
7) Because the auto finance loans are becoming difficult to get.
8) We want that all the two wheeler owners should switch to four wheelers
9)We have learned how to make more and more flyovers and metro systems, so we can handle.Although Flyovers are being destroyed in the developed countries
10)Our policies clash with each other. We wants to encourage public transport simultaneously with private transport. We dont't care to learn from developed countries.
11) Quality of air is already good in metros. We can control it by replacing cng kits of autos and banning diesel vehicles(as in delhi)
12) Crude prices have started to stabilize and decrease, so not much pressure on the govt. exchequer. So what if oil already contributes the bulk of our imports.
13) Govt. would shift the burden of rising crude prices on the PSU's before the elections.
14) Indian roads meet world standards and we can anytime acquire private property besides the roads to widen them, we have now mastered the art of sealing and demolition
15) We nee

What is Globalization?? Allowing the Big Cola companies of the Developed nations like
U.S. to sell their junk food in Developing countries?? Partially yes.... But What Globalization also mean is that Indian Companies like TATA be allowed to sell their value-for-money products like Nano into the U.S without creating a big fuss about emission standards.... Can India not create a fuss about the high levels of pesticides in the Cola Drinks?? Wake-up, western countries, the East is back to regain its past glory. Be it India or China East will give the west a tough competition in all the fields - manufacturing, software, management, marketing, so on and so forth.

Correct....All these years the U.S Concentrated only on building Cars, defense goods, aircrafts, computer chips, etc.and left the rest of the low-end-technology based manufacturing such as garments, toys, etc to Asian countries.... The U.S dictated their price and the Asian countries were forced to sell such goods to them at meager profits...While a 2 square inch silicon computer processor was sold at tens of thousands of Rupees giving the U.S companies super profit margins....

Agreed, we should definitely encourage production in the farm sector also, but we could also now concentrate on High technology manufacturing such as space ships, aircrafts, defense machinery, Cars etc.so that we can avoid parting with huge amounts of money to the western countries....

Roads and Public transport are to be developed by the government and not by Tata's.
They have done their bit by making the cars. Let govt do their bit by making the roads and also the public transport and let the people choose what they want to use.
And public transport are of sense only in cities.. what about the smaller towns and villages.. NANO is going to be a boom for them.. Dont be short sighted think big !!

Who cares what the US scribes think of the NANO...
by Amit Sharma on Jan 14, 2008 07:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

because its meant for us Indians and other probably 2-3 years later some other developing countries might get to see the NANO.
US will get to see the NANO only in photos/videos and when they come visiting to india.
We dont care a bit of what they think of our car. There wasnt even a need to post such an article.

COMMENT BY AN AMERICAN...NOT BY ME....
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Jan 14, 2008 07:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is a very serious issue for the American workforce. Thomas Friedman's The Earth Is Flat compares the quality of education in India and the USA. While India's students study very hard and are excellent in science and mathematics, American students watch too much TV and do little homework. Compared to other countries, American students are near the bottom and are sliding downwards. Friedman points out that if the USA were to have a massive investment in education and completely revamp the American education system, it would take ten years to see results because you have to start with kids in the fourth and fifth grade (and basically write off the entire current generation of high school and college students). But in ten years, India will be yet further ahead. And we all know a major restructuring of the education system isn't going to happen in the USA.

Tata Nano

Not just the americans but many indians too have been saying much more than needed. These hypocrates fail to acknolwedge the invention, the determination an the promise made by the most trusted and respected business house of india to the common man of india. If the same thing had to be imported to our country from elsewhere, these same noble souls would be wagging their tails and drooping saliva. If it fails to stand upto the emmission test, you shout. But without testing it on road, you blame the carmaker foryourapprehensions. And moreover why should only they think about the environment? why not the other carmakers who also sell their automobiles? It takes a lot of character to stand up and appreciate your competitor and lot less to critisise. Hats of to TATA's for not just the NANO butfor making us PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN
