Double standards
by agastee khante on Jan 14, 2008 08:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

First of all look at the US. it has polluted the world for over 60 years and now wants to block development in our countries adn such.

For us we must concentrate on whats good for us , our industry and our people. We will never pollute as much as the states..so let them write what ever they want. They cant see an indian car pull off the immpossible. by the way the electric car would have been on raod atleast 15 years back, but for the big detroit and oil manufacturers who would have been bankrupt. it may be a conspiracy but I believe tht it is plausible...as world issues are decided by handful of individuals in boardrooms and not people on the ground....go india..but more of these luxury goods and show the world what is realy luxury....

dearest bhola, why do see only the negative things in everywhere and not see any positive?

yes, there are lot of problems in india, but it is developing, slowly but steadily.

there is no point in arguing over good/bad. just help whatever way you can. even if you are doing some job abroad, that is itself a financial help for the country.

Reverse status symbol
by Raja Bhattacharya on Jan 14, 2008 08:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I wonder how many of you who support Tata's desi nano will actually give up your swanky foreign cars (yes they are all foreign from Hondas to Hyundais to Chevy's to Skodas) and buy a Nano. If anything, it is reverse status sysmbol. You will be instantly recognised as someone who can't afford a better car.

Field is leveled
by Ripesh Patel on Jan 14, 2008 08:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Because most of Indians can now afford a car. FINALLY. Leveled playing field is not in interest of past winner and that makes Mr. Friedman nervous.

Why should we take him serious anyway? Just because he has visited India frequently and wrote a best seller doesnt qualify him to advise us.

What is your problem man? He is a renowned author unlike Srinivas Bharadwaj.

He is giving his opinion based on the fact that more affordable cars will eventually contribute to more pollution.

It is pretty simple logic.
Can't you digest the fact?

Since now production of Nano cannot be stopped and cars by your logic should not be affordable, so seek american help to make Indians poorer.

Anything to maintain the ''lead''
by Kundan Kumar Lucky on Jan 14, 2008 08:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I had read an article long back about the disparities between east and west. It basically argued that the east could never match the west and they should be happy playing the second fiddle.

And today, in the form of India and China, when they see seismic changes taking place they must be feeling uncomfortable about it. They will do anything to maintain their "superiority" in production and consumption.

And the people who are concerned about everybody in India having a car (because of too much of pollution and traffic problems) should better be concerned about USA. The country does not have a PTS unlike Europe and is heading for a disaster unless they learn that someday they need to payback their credit card bills.

so what if he is making money, he is certainly not making outrageous proportions like others are. Tata has done what no one before could. These US n UK and all these EU countries they are moving to Nuclear Power Stations which would leave 1000s of years of toxic waste!! If they can do this to the environment coz they can't face a loadshedding we have every right to have a family driving safely on the roads.

USA should learn from their own comments.
by Mukund on Jan 14, 2008 08:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If Tata car is going to add in polution and global warming, then very concept of American one car per person itself is a false capitalist concept and all americans should have followed like china or russia to stree only on public transport or use bycycle. Just because Americans are not getting credit of this they are commenting non sense. These same people are in fact copying our Neem, Basmati Rice and Curd rice and putting them as their petent to get more money and change the histry. These items are more than 1000 years Indian have ben using.
If american have so much concern of polution, then they should stop production of arms and arms race in the world, distroy nuclear missiles, stop working as world policeman.
Thumbs up to Tata Nano.

Bhola, you will lose the argument in this forum, because all you have is facts!!!! Most people here are suckers for emotion, not facts! Which is the most corrupt 5-star hotel chain in India? Taj group. Worst dish service? Tata Sky.
which finance company is in the red? Tata Finance. I could go on and on..... I admire the Tatas myself, but India is much bigger than them. Don't equate them with Indian nationalism.

Dont make Nano a sign of Indian nationalism. It's no gift to makind from the Tatas, but a business venture. Andplease do not badmouth a country that does so much for India. Nano will still have to run on roads made with Word Bank (U.S.) money. Tell Tatas to build roads instead.
