We deserve a lifestyle too
by useurhead on Jan 14, 2008 06:40 PM  Permalink

When the western countries polluted so many decades to develop their own nations at that time there were no questions asked, When India and China are doing the similar development why is the world trying to stop us. Have they come from heaven above to have a good life and let the asians and the undeveloped leave to suffer. We also need a better quality of life as they do, When they invented things they are entered into guiness books, who are they to tell us what to do when they have been doing the same in the past. Vote for TATA like how we voted for Taj and by the way no one can stop India getting developed

That's rich from western media
by Raul on Jan 14, 2008 06:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This from the people driving gas guzzling SUV's and V8, v12 motors, with multiple cars per household. That's hypocrisy for you.

Seriously, this is up there with One Laptop Per Child.

By putting a new, efficient, CLEAN car into the reach of used car buyers, in a single stroke Tata has just ensured that tens, and maybe hundreds of thousands of inefficient dirty old clunkers will be taken off Indian roads each year and recycled into something better. And these will also be taking thousands of incredibly dirty 2-stroke scooters and bikes off the road as well.

Expect air quality to measurably improve in Indian cities (and the cities of any other developing country they end up being exported to) thanks entirely to these cars.

I wish them every success.

Its everybody's responsiblity for environmental concern
by Mohammed Burhanuddin on Jan 14, 2008 06:36 PM  Permalink

Ofcourse this is going to put pressure on the environmental balance tilting towards the negitive side, but its everybodys responsibility to take care of the environment, not just the have nots. Its not that haves can shit/screw up the environs and have nots clean it. Its everybodys responsibility to think of environment. Its again the same call, are we trying to consider the environmental effects or not, irrespective of what we have, a Lexus or Nano.
Having said that, we should just appreciate Nano for coming up with such a less price and making lesser mortal's day by giving the pleasure of having a car.

Nano!
by Manas Mohan on Jan 14, 2008 06:33 PM  Permalink

Dear Fellow chest-beating Indians! Yes, we seem to have a great step ahead. Hopefully, the car will prove crash-worthy (although lets face it, come what may, any family of 4 will be n-times safer in the Nano than on a motorbike!) and safe!
Regardless of what Americans (Amreekans to a lot of us) say, the Nano is awesome. Even if it were stuck together with glue, do remember that the second world war was won by planes patched up with chewing gum!
But we do have a potetial problem - a billion tailpipes might be an exaggeration, but I would put my money on a couple of million all right!
The problem is compounded with lackadaisical bunch of politicians who have completely let down the tax-paying citizens of the country (please note - emphasis on tax-paying!!!).
Can our press please take a trip to Shanghai (sorry - but I had to compare a Mumbai or a Delhi with something!)... and then tell the rest of India what TOWN PLANNING actually means?
We are kidding ourselves when we say that INDIA is developing. It is not! Business is developing - not the country! Some of us work 12-14 hours a day to achieve our goals, only to be let down by those idiots in 'synthetic khadi'!
The other problem - ONE out of a THOUSAND indian drivers knows traffic rules and etiquette. So here's a solution - quadruple traffic fines, and STICK to them. Policemen will be happier, will get a share of the overall bouyancy, and traffic WILL MOVE! Cheers!

Esty who? This is the typical All-American reaction. Amreicans have more hairy chests than any other male in the world, American women are bustier,American beef is tastier and blah blah blah! Esty would do wll to remember that the UA Dollar is beleagured. American writ does not r7un in most parts of the world, the Mulsim terrorists are gaining and America does not havethe will any more to fight. Why not see the writing on the wall? The world has simply moved on only myopic americans like Esty refuse to see.

a source of global warming, in short, a threat to humanity ? Nano ?
by chanakya maurya on Jan 14, 2008 06:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

And what about that big threat to the global humanity from that wily neanderthaal occupying the Oval ?

The largest contributors to the global warming are the yankees themselves with their large limousines and air conditioners.

They are talking just nonsense.

Because they are not accustomed to appreciate any sense with its roots outside their own country.

They are under an exclusively foolish notion that sensibility is patented by americans only.

My foot !

The Us writers
by swamy on Jan 14, 2008 06:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

the US writers have not SLAMMED the Nano, if you read their articles, they praise the engineering and in one paragraph describe a potential problem, no way blaming the car. Rediff is giving the wrong message just for more hits, plz read the articles by newsweek and then comment.

Americans are actually praising nano, and many even say wish it were available in the US for in-city rides. Just a few iron pillar critics here and there in big magazines dont mean anything. See Autobloggreen most americans like nano and would buyt it.
