well bajaj has its answer perhaps
by raj on Jan 10, 2008 12:12 PM  Permalink

i didnt like bajaj trying to steal the tata thunder. looks like bajaj's car doesnt look as good as the tata's they should try to be in the intermediate market. the immediate threat for bajaj is to their rickshaws now :) i'd say eliminate those bloody polluting rickshaws!

Hats off to Tata
by Antaraa on Jan 10, 2008 11:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Again and again, Tata has proved there ingenuity by creating segments which people never thought off, starting with the Tata low payload trucks 407,609 then Tata sumo a new segment, then indica a big success, then ace and now this one lakh car. Tata has always found skepticism, but they have proved they have the vision and they can do good things for the common man and for the society.Tatas innovation does not lie in engineering very Hi-Fi Technosavy products but the art of thinking and creating new segments which one could never even imagine of there existence. Just the fact that still Tata Indica Diesel has no competition in its segment even after 9 years of launch proves tata's might in creating new markets. And yes might be sooner or later all rickshaws will be replaced by this car, which would be a much safer option. This car would hugely benefit the rural and semi rural masses. And yes if it sells in numbers they would surely benefit out of this launch no doubt of that. Its not new in India that whenever one person tries to do good, he faces a lot of opposition and so is tata facing the opposition now which will soon die down under the weight of tatas sucess.

r u sure this car wd replace autorikshaws running on roads. No my dear. In fact roads would be much heavily loaded. How about infrastructure to support influx of huge nos. of these cars. U wd find frequent jams within cities.

Just wait.

Developing cars is the job of industrialists like Tata, developing roads and infrastructure is the job of government, politicians. But, unfortunately the latter are not working towards a better India!

Letter to Bajaj.
by shankar aurade on Jan 10, 2008 11:38 AM  Permalink

Dear Sir,
congratulations to you for entering into car segment first. but things to ponder to you is that you are thinking only profitability of project, not thinking of market. first you should capture market first then think of profit. Tatas intention is clear cut offering 1 lakh car is capturing market, on the other hand others are losing potential market. Take ex. of Hero Honda, they captured market first, now it is no one brand in India in two whiller.

Bajaj got point
by Seema Bhargav on Jan 10, 2008 11:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I agree with Mr bajaj. two-thirds of the cost of ownership of a car was maintenance and running fuel costs while one-third was the price of the car.

"The key thing, therefore, is not the price of the car but the running cost,"
