What privatisation cando....
by Vinal Gandhi on Jan 03, 2008 09:57 PM  Permalink

The Mumbai airport is already looking and feeling better. With the progress good, I expect India will have really have three world class airports (Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore- I do not know about Hyderabad though) soon. And all these being built by provate enterprises. One should really compare Kolkata airport to realize that the leftist fools have really missed a golden opportunity. Kolkata airport is easily one of the shabbiest major airports in India. The floors are slimy and dirty, counters are less, there are hardly enough convenience shops, toilets are abysmal.....and all because those nincompoop leftists....

customs

There is an urgent need to "clean up" the immigration and customs officials in the airport before cleaning up the airport itself. They literally look worse than muggers in the US. Corrupt to the core, money eaters and dishonest

Kitappa,,,,lately have you seen yourself in the mirror? Why are you carrying items which are not allowed in the country and then try to bargain with the customs official. And why are you at the airport in a immigration line, looking for a bride or a hooker? Grow up and uncorrupt.

We, as users of the airport should not carry dutiable items above the allowances. If you do, be prepared to pay the customs duty. Thats the only way to keep the customs creeps out. Travellers should know their responsibility and act accordingly !

Few Things about Mumbai International airport for Mr. Reddy to act upon

1. Please construct a waiting lounge for passengers. In India, nearly all domestic flights fly during the day and international flights during night or early morning. Hence one who flies into mumbai to catch an international flight is left stranded outside the airport building in whatever weather nature may bestow and that too among a crowd of taxi-wallahs and many other antisocial elements. This system sucks.

2. Please install dry toilets. Most of the people living abroad are used to dry toilets whereas I have found the toilets to be wet and filthy.

3. Upon arrival, one has to walk a lot before one reaches the immigration and baggage claim section. Please install moonwalks there. This walk is very tiresome after long flights!!

Otherwise most of the new facilities are well appreciated

One more suggestion is to build waiting area where passengers can spend time with their friends and relatives whilst waiting for their flight.

At Heathrow Airport it seems to be so obvious and makes life easy for everyone. Airport makes money from restaurants who serve these visitors instead of charging entry fee.

Whereas at Mumbai visitors are left waiting outside in any weather condition.

Preeti good point. However, I dont really see how 'dry' toilets can be installed ever so often? Like as soon as a toilet gets wet, remove it and install a dry toilet? lol What is needed is for users of these facilities to maintain hygiene and cleanliness and leave the facility without messing it up. True, good housekeeping should also be employed.
