by citizenbangalore on Feb 25, 2008 06:05 PM  Permalink

1000s of trees have been cut down for the construction activity for the airport. I request BIAL, forest dept and concerned depts to plant trees all over the airport area and also the roads leading to the airport.

Bengaluru International Airport
by Manoja on Feb 25, 2008 05:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I thank the powers that be for naming this airport simply as Bengaluru International Airport!!!! Had there been a congie govt like the one that is there in Andhra, we could have had a Gandhi family name attached..

Since Indira Gandhi is in New Delhi and Rajeev Gandhi is in hyderabad, this airport would have been named either as Sonia Gandhi.. or Priyanka Gandhi...

Small mercies lord showers on us!!!

I fully support you. Why do you think public utility services like roads, libraries, stadia etc. are named after dignitaries or politicians ?As a mark of respect or in recognition of their contributions, right? We have lots of Airports, roads, stadia, wildlife sanctuaries, bhawans, govt.schemes named after the Nehru family. Any more would show the loyalty of the politicians to the family only.If you have to name, name after somebody else, there is no dearth of any such personalities in India. Or is it, considering everything under the sun being named after the family only.

@ Pankaj - Can you list some wonderful contributions from all of those 'respectable' politicians that you have named?

@ Smile - Deve Gowda international airport? Name the airport so and people will use the airport as a 'spit-bin' going forward.
