Lalu: India's inimitable Railway Minister
by Hebbar R on Feb 25, 2008 01:53 PM  Permalink

One wonders if Rediff has been paid for eulogising the Minister. It is a big question if Lalu was responsible for the Profits or if the actions taken by his predecessors resulted in profits. Also, a study should be conducted to see if some of the actions, taken by the Railways, are safe.

The Minister, inspite of all the plusses being given to him by the Media, had the aduacity to call all the people of a particular state as "Dirty People". This just because they were protesting against the partiality in giving chances only to Biharis. Besides, the Minister also transferred 5 officials as he was not happy with the special food served to him. Notwithstanding that the Aam Aadmi has to eat this stuff every time he travels. It is a pity that the PM did not deem it fit to question this Minister for his utterances against a whole State.

You are the biggest lower caste fool who think Lalu "steered" the railways to profit.
It's the bureaucrats under him who did it.

un-fortunately corruption is rampant and acceptable in our society. We talk about it and condemn it as we should but yet cannot do anything about it except not be part of it. Even our courts are helpless when dealing with powerful people - why cant say but yet nothing much happens which is direct reflection of the ruling govt. The solace is that atleast Mr Prasad though having corriuption cases against him has tried and is succeeful in turning around the railways.

Who said he is done great for the common man ?
by Qx on Feb 25, 2008 01:40 PM  Permalink

It is sad to note that the common man is always the sufferer. Money cannot come from Moon. It comes from the common man.

How the common man lost money ?

Previously the common man can get a confirmed berth, at least if he books one week in advance.

Now he wont even get RAC if he tries to book 15 days in Advance.

REASON ???

More than 30% of the seats/berths are blocked for TATKAL.

Does the common has enough money to pay that extra Money ?

I want answer from you ?

Hey.. admit good as good. There were the same staff when Nitish was Rail minister. Why that man did not pull through this profit making budget. Lalu made it in Railway which for 15 years he could not make in Bihar and Rabri could not make for 10 years.

Think twice before praising Laloo
by Anil Kumar Roy on Feb 25, 2008 01:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

For most people, it seems like old harmless fun when talking about Laloo. He seems like a great guy who has turned the railways around.

Let me remind you that this is the guy that wreaked havoc in Bihar. The current state of Bihar is almost entirely Laloo's fault. Even though many politicians are corrupt, you can still see that the other states of India managed to show some progress. With Laloo, he actually managed to make the situation worse. I am a Bihari, and no person in the right state of mind can praise Laloo. Just go to Bihar and you will see what a total mess he has left it in. Nitish Kumar, although not the perfect politician himself, seems like an angel when compared to Laloo and has finally managed to bring some upswings In Bihar.

Folks, please be more careful when having harmless fun about Laloo and Bihar. This is the guy that has caused misery to so many people in Bihar - there is nothing funny about it. Laloo is the sole reason that we see Bihar's image the way it is today.

Just imagine - this is the same place where the greatest university in the world used to thrive. I pray, dream and work hard for Bihar reach the same heights again.

Great to see the way u put the collective thoughts about Bihar, Being a Bihari i feel proud but the way people perceive it is really hearting, Lalu offcourse took the turn around in Railways but he is a person and only person who can again take the pain to reform Bihar's future otherwise the way it's going is too slow and i may not alive by the time Bihar becomes Delhi or Mumbai instead of having better resources and Human capabilities.

Do something too save the great culture and great history that in india others can't boast off.

I dont support lalu politicis.. but tell me, were those officials and diplomats not in railways before lalu. why the railway was in such huge loss before him. and if not to his credit for renewal or raliway then who is the real leader for this improvement. why he is invited in IIM to lecture. why people from haward coming to take management lesson. dont they know that it is not lalu but officials who did the magic. remember friend,in war its soldiers who fight, but its commander who is the real man behind that. hope u understand what i mean. feel free to bash lalu as i am with u. but talk reasonably

Rajesh, I understand your position on Laloo improving the railways and bringing a voice to the backward castes. But couldn't all this have been achieved without the total disaster he left behind in Bihar. Is there really anything to debate about that?

Laloo can take credit for improving the railways, but in now way can that act to erase the mess he created.
