IIM and IIT 's............what have they done to the common man ?
by Black on Feb 12, 2008 04:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

They educate themselves and leave the country, I believe they should have 2 years of community service like how the doctors do in rural areas.....let these IIM's and IIT Guraduate and make the rural areas more technlogical and entrepreneurial !! other wise do not give them subsidised education - they just pay Rs 500 - 1000 a year....it's that subsidised...........

Who said IIT graduates get subsidised education?...they pay fees of upto Rs 30,000 per semester...OUT of total apprx 1.5 lakhs graduates(BTECH) from all IITs as of now only 40,000 are staying outside India(30,000 in US)...

Except recently IIT-GUhawati all others were opened by foreign nations.

Your reasoning and perception doesn't match with statistics

B schools only teach fraud
by Anurag Agrawal on Feb 12, 2008 03:56 PM  Permalink

B schools only teach how to cheat that is all. how to tell lies how to misguide. this is Kaliyug in Satyug people used to study religion and philosophy and the best brains went there but in Kaliyug best brains want to become dukandars and dhokhebaaz.
If some one want to buy something he will buy it from seller why do we need managers then?

Skills for better manager
by abboral boral on Feb 12, 2008 03:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Skills are some of the tools can be used while working as manager/entrepeuner/seller/byer and all kind of managing .This cannot be be achieved unless someone practise regularly .Practise makes perfection. One of the key skills is managing EGO .I thing EGO playes a most vital role for managing everything .B schools only teaches Ego on book but after passing out from the school one just forget this vital thing that is EGO .No school will teach how to measure EGO mathmetically .I have some formula which I thing anybody will be benifitted once mastering this formula by mathmatically calculating .abboral@gmail.com

IIM is CRAP!
by joe on Feb 12, 2008 03:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont get this. IIM institutions are OK, but to exaggerate them and the IIM grads as "the prodigal sons/daughters" is a load of crap. I have worked with a few in the past in Europe and U.K and found their soft skills and english proficiency pretty ordinary. They usually tend to blurt stuff that borders on "indian gibberish" and never come to the point. It could be generalised that their ability to work with international firms is limited. The world doesn' need the IIM grads to solve its problems, but people who are hardened up with management experience from an early age. I find it extremely dissapointing that IIM grads cannot speak any other foreign languages(excluding crap english they often blurt out). I was born in a remote farming village in andhra pradesh...worked my pants of in hyderabad, UK and Germany to acheive success. The IIM grads are jolly-go lucky types with a degree that no one really cares or knows about in the western world. I can never fathom the reason as to why they should be bragging anyway...

just bcoz you spent quite a lot of time in Germany, UK etc to achieve success doesn't mean the value of IIM is not good enough to produce good quality management pros. I think you have written this because of your hatred with these fellows in past experiences.

naah! i dont hate them mate. i hate nobody for that matter. i just dont see the point as to why they should be bragging about their degrees. i mean it's just a management degree, its not like you are firing rockets into space. IIMers should just take it easy and not feel 'prodigal' about the whole thing.

I agree with you. There should be uniformity in Indian education system till PhD level. All these brand names like IIM, are employed only to create a divisive attitude among the professionals. This is not uncommon in India. Infact, this is the characteristic feature of India -- Divide.

I have observed most of the premier institute teaches and makes most of the students egoistic and students passing out from this school suffer heavily in job because of their highly parent ego .They simply forget humility, humbleness ,modesty and last but not managing one's ego by calculating mathmetically and apply judiciously .Once the famous scientist Jagadish ch Bose told her mother that i will study in a very lowly placed school and I will not go to rich school because they makes student very egoistic and I am sure they will face difficulty in their professional life in future .

Dear Sir

Any institutions are not great its the people who make them great. IIMs donot produce leaders and guts, but rather its the people with best analytical skills thats available in india. The point you are missing here is your success and management style will definetly be better or unique but see the success rate of people like you and managers from iim and you will see the difference. IIM is about consistency please do not miss out this point.

Is it that B School is the only source of management skills. What about the legendary industrialists like JRD, Dhirubhai.. are they all from B Schools. Thousands of managers in corporate world taking businesses to new highs are all graduates from B Schools, personal skills or their education has no role at all.

Thats what I said You can get management skills only by working around the problems and your goals what B schools teach you is different tool which could be helpful for doing proper management. Here please dont confuse management with entrepreneurship, neither B schools profess that they can teach entrepreneurship nor they can. And please remember Another great fellow L N Mittal says he regrets not having a MBA, can we brush such statement aside and think that MBA has nothing to offer. And there is nothing to brag about IIM degree. But only that One who was smart enough to outsmart 99 % other candidates in a given CAT paper as well as personality is able to get the degree. Fair enough?
Now let me quote, there are 100000 MBA being produced in india with fairly good clerical mind to crunch numbers and help in the economic activity started by entrepreneurs. Isn't that great? I think it is on any given day. And never mind some of these people do become entrepreneur and produce thousands of jobs. As far as the nation is concerned IIMs are good enough and bringing fame to the nation tho they need to be better. And as far as foreign placement is concerned I dont think there is anything bad in working in foreign companies as long as your loyalties do not contradict or collide with your loyalties of the nation. Lets not underestimate our entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Point taken . But please understand what he is saying. It is a management degree. Do not go about strutting that you are the best. They may have the best analytical figures.Come up with pie charts and bar charts, but at the end of the day you need leadership qualities. So what we have naturally due to our up bringing in families is sometimes suppressed by these institues , this is what the author says.

'success rate' of IIM's is more, so all the grads out of IIMs can brag about their degree. I cant help but compare it with 'most of the Brahmins well placed, so none of them deserve reservation'. I am not trying to drag reservation issue. I am only trying to project that we cant get away by generalizing things. Let me put it in another statement 'I have been driving well all these years, just one lapse in concentration shouldnt kill me'

One more thing can you guess what is the contribution of clerks and peons in india. Or engineers on pay rolls. they are essential clogs of the giant economic wheel, can we ignore them. Why were advisors have been traditionally respected and have enjoyed position of power, same with IIM grads.
