is it usable
by Nimai Meher on Aug 08, 2008 06:50 PM  Permalink

As the weight will increase, the milage will decrease, and if it becomes as big as a maruti car, It will give 12-15 km per litre. Back to the same square.

Nothing innovative, looks like some college kids toy. At least, they could have selected a shape other than coffin.

Important points are missing!
by Entomologist on Aug 08, 2008 06:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Q1. What makes this three wheeler (it doesn't look like a car or anything else to be categorised) to give such a super mileage (180 KMPL). Even they claim that they can take it to 500 KMPL.

Q2. What is the max and avg speed at which it can run?

The students have taken parts that were already existing like Honda lawn mower engine, TVS's carburator, etc.

What is so unique in this assembly? Certainly it is not an invention !

What is so interesting in this thing is the mileage! But, no information abt that !?

Why to go for a bicyle wheel? I don't think car wheels / motorcyle wheels are so costly.

When a driver sit in the middle of the structure, how can he see straight ahead?

Best of luck

It gives such good mileage because it is shaped so that it does not disturb the air much as it passes, and because it has wheels that roll with very little resistance. It is probably capable of about 100 km/h on 2 hp.
This vehicle probably isn't very practical because of poor view of the road and because the tyres will soon burst if the road is not perfectly smooth, BUT if the tyre industry would make special low-rolling-resistance tyres in sizes similar to motorcycle tyres and if people did not worry so much about what a vehicle looks like then it would be possible to make a practical motorcycle or car that gets close to this vehicle's mileage.

Garuda...

Garuda can only fly not on roads. Studetns have not understood the basic congestion on the raods. How this big Garud can get moving space, forget Parking place....Garuda may not pick-up...

Ah I think you are missing a point here. This one can beat the congestion on urban roads by slipping under buses, lorries and bullock carts. :)

It is not for selling;
You started teaching students; they may not have understood the congestion; but they understood the that fuel is not going to last forever; they understood that todays cars dont have good aerodynamic designs; they understood that something is lacking in engines of today.... about which you would not be knowing even iota.

googlinglife ... you really need to understand what is called an INVENTION.... if there is any REAL INVENTION then i am sure every Indian out here would be praising it.... but if a bunch of school kids BUY a HONDA LAWN MOWER ENGINE and put a coffin shaped box over it and attach 3 bicycle wheels and start calling it their INVENTION and then people like you start praising it then GOD SAVE INDIA. In this case the credit for fuel efficiency goes to HONDA not these bunch of foolish kids.

Hello googling life,

Have u gone thro' the article properly.

Actually, they have not made anything new. They have just assembled things that are already existing.

THe engine they used is Honda lawn mower engine. Do you know what is a lawn mover? It is to prune the grass.

For sure, they have not built an engine!

With a poor lawn mower engine to support such a massive structure, i think that can only achieve a max speed of 5 KMPH.

We people are just living in a real world. Anything good, we are ready to appreciate!

Not to discredit and insult the team which made Garuda, but is it a car or a coffin? I wish the team all the very best to implement the same fuel efficiency for the normal cars.

by Prashanth on Aug 08, 2008 06:00 PM  Permalink

Sorry but this looks a poor underpowered contraption and has incorporated no new innovations whatsoever. It has an underpowered 2hp engine, of course it can give good mileage. Nothing new there. As for the body again nothing earth shattering. I think it is just a waste of time. What are they trying to prove?

yeah, they stole the Lawn mower engine and claiming its efficiency as their success.

You know when I was a kid I made a car that didn't even need gasoline, but I never got any media coverage. Maybe because the car only went downhill.

Loan Shark,
he bike you will ride to-day also started like this,so did aeroplane.
These contraptions are not for production but experimental to see what canbe learnt and achived.
Did you know that every year we here in UK have a compition to fly across the english channel in a home made plane.
So far the best aeroplane constructed was made from balsa wood and cllophne powred by a bicycle mechinism and and flew about 10 meters high and crossed the channels in 1hour and 40 mins to cover the distance of 34 Km.
But this plane is not for productin but just for fun and what can be achived.
The trouble with us Indians is "We have no imagination".Thus no achivement or development in any field except incresing population.
