I am innocent, shoot me if proven otherwise
by ajoy on Aug 07, 2008 08:45 PM  Permalink

NEW DELHI, Aug 6 (PTI): With firm backing from the Indian Weightlifting Federation, dope-tainted lifter Monika Devi today claimed innocence and alleged that she was being victimised by some members of the Sports Authority of India.

Monika, the lone weightlifter chosen to represent India in the Beijing Olympic Games, was prevented from boarding the Beijing flight last night for testing positive for a banned anabolic salt but the Manipuri said she had no idea which dope test she flunked as she cleared four tests in the last two months.

“I am innocent. I have always stayed away from doping and that is why I was selected in the trials,” a tearful Monika told reporters at a press conference here. “Everyone knows there are various international tests and no sensible athlete would do that (dope). I am ready to go to Beijing where my dope test is scheduled for tomorrow. If I fail there leave apart banning me for life, shoot me in public,” she said.

Monika, who was selected ahead of Andhra weightlifter Shailaja Pujari in the Indian selection trials last month, claimed some people in the SAI were trying to make case for Shailaja due to regional allegiance. “I had no clue about anything till 7.30 pm yesterday and at 10-10.30 it was all chaos. It was a pre-meditated move because they did not give me tickets and other stuff required for travelling to Beijing when I asked for it and told me to collect it on the next day,” she said. Monika claimed SAI director (Teams) RK Naidu had alread

First Toyota broke down 4 times on the say to the Show Room
by Kris iyer on Aug 07, 2008 08:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The first model of Toyota made in the 1950s broke down FOUR times on its way from the factory to the showroom!!
This is only a "proto-type". It is NOT a finished product. Some of the comments seem to assume that it should look like a new Mercedes parked in a show room. You get what you pay for. A new Mercedes will give you 5 kms per litre in city traffic.
Any product evolves through several "proto-types" through modifications for "marketing" it.
What these students have done is to evolve a machine that has "fuel efficiency" as its sole criterion.
Even if this is turned into a "family car", its fuel efficiency factors such as the motor will still be better than what is commercially available.
They could try further experiments with "hybrids" - mixing petrol with electricity or "Sun Electric"!!
I wish them Success.
NO EXPERIMENTS NO DISCOVERIES

This is really a good one... as an Indian I am also proud for this...Guys u ve done a good job. I think some modifications can be done to accomodate 2 passengers ...also lot can be developed from this...keep it up...try for some funding or grants and change the face of the world...

Now to many guys who were making demoralising comments...can u make at least a CYCLE ...then why r u making such comments...check the photograph of the first ever car or cycle and then compare with what you see now...if you cant appreciate such efforts at least keep quiet...and do ur work and let them do theirs

I agree with you, what is that you are supposed to put a dead body or is it making a statement that you drive in it and you dont need a coffin ... this is not innnovation ..A car is something where people can can sit and drive and have a good view of the road and can steer properly ... I cant see how they can steer and drive through traffic in this ... forget making turns ...
