I wouldn't say it's flopped in other parts of the world? Take a look at the extensive usage in places like Australia and Singapore. And speaking about "far better technologies" - there aren't many you can count. Other than WiMax, I don't think any other technology is comparable. It's still a question mark as to which technology's better between 3G and WiMax.
If you're talking about other techs that will be introduced in teh future - sure, it's possible. That's the way technology works - there'll eventually be something better. But there definitely won't be something better in India by 2009.

Pen and pencil...ha...ha.. show to yr cronies.. All the best is coming from west. Because they have the mentality to burn money on research & development.Whereas in India, if one research fails, it is totally abandoned and blame game starts.

what is elite in 3G? many countries have been on 3G networks since past 2 years. Barring USA, they follow their on CDMA standards. Please, report the news as it should be reported. Moving towards 3G netwrok is logical transition and all countries will make this switch according to their needs. Likewise, Digital TV will replace cable operators as per the market requirements. There is nothing elite in it.
I have been using 3G service from past 1 year for surfing(emails) and video calls. Lookig forward for airtel 3G connection for hassel free surfing when i visit India :)

Sruthi, USA is having EVDO technology.. it is the 3g standard in CDMA and it is a much better technology than UMTS that people in other part of the world are following.....

My friend Nithin, USA uses EVDO(CDMA) and WCDMA(GSM) technologies to deliver 3G services. They just happen to have a larger number of CDMA users than GSM.

Ohh see the attitude of the NRI babe...It happens. Onc eu touch foreign land, it's difficult to put ur feeet on ground. BTW, for us desis, 3G is a elite option as it is going to be expensive plus only few wud have access to it given the teledensity itself is

3G might be elite for you. However, "India joined the elite list of countries" having 3G netwrok doesnt make a country elite or lets say you dont have to be elite for having a 3G netwrok. It is only a question about demand and supply.

Just because someone disagrees with your point of view doesn't mean you start stereotyping.
And yes - 3G is going to be more expensive than regular 2G networks. Does that automatically mean it shouldn't be introduced in India?
NOW MORE HEART ATTACKS AND BRAIN TUMORS AMERICA IS DESTROYING INDIA NOKIA,RELIANCE,VODA,AIRTEL WILL BE NOWHERE IN COMMIG YEARS SINCE ALL MOBILE COMPANIES WILL SHUTDOWN THERE BUSINESS.

It is not America. Big telco companies are ofcourse downplaying the risks associated with using mobile phones. People must understand this and minimize its use. Also, i see one crazy thing that many people in India are doing is permitting cell towers on their rooftops. That is hazardous! very bad for health. They risk suffering from cancer and depression in long run.

Its not people's fault ... the companies or govt never explain the risk associated with it.. how do they know?
What 3G means for a Poor Man ???? for millions of people who sleep half of empty stomach... this is nothing but a crude JOKE in the name of development. Is GOVT really going to spend the earned money from BIDS on the welfare of poor people. NO NO NO NO... They are preparing for the Coming Elections and need MONEY.. The select will be awarded the Spectrum.... Another SCAM will follow...

3G will mean better service for millions of poor people who own mobile phones. one 3G voice is billed as one call by many operators overseas, no matter how many minutes you talk. Hopefully, similar model will be followed in India. For others it will mean more productivity or headache :D because they will make mobile internet cheap/practical for many users. Don't count everything in terms of porr and rich. Comparing government spending on infrastructure to introducing new technology doesnt make any sense. Private companies are going to develop the infrastructure not the government.

i meant 3G voice call. And ofcourse people need to own 3G capable mobile phones and these days many companies introduce low end 3G capable handsets. or you can always trust China mobile to introduce someting for dirt cheap price.
RE:internet
by Shivam Parikh on Aug 05, 2008 05:05 PM Permalink
Yes it is. Sadly you won't get that much (or might not get that ) once it goes shared. It seems India's initial look will be a much lesser bandwidth margin . The costs for 3G Internet will be expensive (2000 Rs. a month or so for unlimited).
RE:After government complete all formalities, 3G Technology will outdated.
by A P on Aug 05, 2008 05:26 PM Permalink
it's already outdated. I use 3.5G in the country I live. However you are not missing anything. A phone should perform what it is actually intended to do.. voice communications..rest is all bakwaas
