our politicians....
by super nova on Apr 25, 2008 11:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i don't think the UPA government is to blame. price rise is all over the world. price rise is mainly due to the drought in australia and ukraine which lead to massive wheat shortage and as India is a member of the WTO it has to abide by the price of wheat which is very high today. well agriculture was already doing worse during the NDA regime, then ho can NDA leaders protest for the price rise issue. in the next few weeks the price of essential commodities will come down drastically due to the bumper crop of wheat australia got this year. australia is one of the largest producres of wheat in the world. the UPA government whould have taken precautionary steps but it didn't. the NDA leaders are good for nothing and just hell bent on their goonda-giri to work. lets see what will they do when they come to power. inflation will be almost double that time like how it was in 2004 - 8%

so we are depending on Austrlia for our foosd supplies! NDA leaders nevber bother about Inflation as they are aware that to get vote the only mantra is BIG C-caste /communilism!And middle class Indians either too only vote for CASTE and COMMUNILISM!If they get their mathmatics right then they will win other wise not! Congress will only exist till the new Vote Bank either of dalits/obc /minorites combine come under Mayawati ? and rule India for next fifty years !But come what may the rule of the middle class corrupt bourgeios is over!Though they hate Congress but also allow it to survive so that Dalits and obc groups do not rule over them!Once the Congress is eliminate from Indian scene the days of the so called corrupt Middle class also will be over!so one need worry about Inflation as this is not or never the CORE issue for most Indians and specially never have been for corrupt middle class group who is well content and only feras the rise of poor India!Time will prove this in next ten years!

High oil prices to Blame
by Loga on Apr 25, 2008 11:56 AM  Permalink

Subsidies oil price and grow more food products to curb inflation.
Impact of high oil prices, which affect agricultural costs directly because of the significance of energy as an input in the cultivation process itself through fertiliser and irrigation costs as well as in transporting food. The high price of oil is hitting consumers' wallets with each trip to the gas station or grocery store.
India imports five lakh tonnes of wheat and other food products from other countries.
Australia exports 12.2 percent and Canada 13.2 percent of world wheat exports. Now because of the 2 Consecutive droughts in Australia and Canada in place of export they are importing wheat from other countries.
Prices of all essential commodities are rising not just in India but across the world due to a fall in supply. Inflation has spiralled all over the world.
One of the most lasting cause of higher food prices is certainly population growth. As countries such as C and India grow and prosper, they are consuming a greater share of the world's food. Prosperity affects how much people eat and what they eat.

FM must know 'How Multiplier Effect Works' for Good as well as Bad
by Good_man on Apr 25, 2008 11:56 AM  Permalink

When price rise hits one sector it affects all other sectors as well. A plumber on daily wages may increase his 'charges' to meet 'his' daily expenses.

Any way if FM has been fudging figures to show the economy in good light , they must be precisely knowing what they were hiding and how it backfired.

In fairness and with view to contain the impending damages, they (FM) must transparently discuss the alternatives.

Which is very unlikely to happen. Because, it is very difficult to admit mistakes in normal times.
In election years the need to hide and pass blames on 'other factors' and 'others' will be overwhelming. As a result no analysts will ever know what is a 'good' & 'safe' strategy for driving 'high', 'sustainable' and 'equitable' growth.

There is a bigger danger of price rise which must be realized.

The social costs of not understanding precise dynamics of 'high growth rate' systems is always enormous.

Yes Absolutely
by Saths on Apr 25, 2008 11:56 AM  Permalink

I mean is Rediff so stupid to ask this type of questions. Isn't UPA the ruling party now? There are sevral cartels that are working in tandem and increasing the price like the rising temperature. To add to all of this mess there is also all the retail chains making sure they suck the blood out every customer. The government is not able to catch these goons and put them behind the bars. The cartels have the country in their hands now and they decide the future. We have the commodity trading which is now the fancy of everyone to create fake demand and make millions when the normal suffers the loss. Look at the oil price it is being traded like there is no tomorrow by the so called hedge funds and since they have billions invested they don't want it to come down and we are doomed unless the commodity trading is stopped. The stock market plunge is inviting more people in to commodity trading which will spell doom for normal man. I would not be surprised if these greedy ba stards would take the oil price up to $250 per barrel.

Every one in politics and business is responsible.
by suhail khalid on Apr 25, 2008 11:54 AM  Permalink

Every govt that has run the country for a long or short duration is responsible for the price rise today. Two greater culprits are businessmen who increase the prices at the drop of a hat and the vile farmer who spends the loan money on drinking, and marriages and other sundry affairs.Consequently he will not be able to return the loan and put the blame on mother nature. This politician, businessman and farmer form the triangle of evil business and ruin the nation. No subsidies should be given to farmers. The land of the defaulting farmers should be seized by the govt and auctioned off to Indian MNCs,middlemen should be kicked out and be drowned in any of the three seas surrounding India, and as for the govt,it must replace all those bullshit ministers with young MBA and Masters graduates if it really cares for he future of our country.
