PDS system - a hoax
by govind dujari on Apr 24, 2008 07:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There is enormous corruption in Public Distribution System. Food grains, like wheat and rice, deliberately displayed in front of ration shops even in a city like Kolkata are of so inferior quality that one refuses to buy it. As a result good quality food grains stocked in their godowns find way to private traders and both the ration shop owners and the traders make huge profits with the help of food and supply inspectors. My two domestic helps holding BPL ration cards told me that they had not seen wheat in ration shops for years leave alone poor quality. Where do millions of tons of food grains go? Government procures food grains from farmers for the common man but all the efforts go waste and high inflation rate keeps on killing the poor. Will the government wake up and punish the unscrupulous people involved in this kind of heinous crime?

It is better to keep away the govt. from procure store and distribute food items and instead pay by cash to the card holders what amount govt. intent to subsidise per head for PDS commodities. Peoples can buy good commodties as per their choice from open market using this food subsidy distribute by gov as cash.

Then the corruption will not occure and also gov. can save lot of administration expenses for procure, store, distribute and also loss of grains during transist.

But this will not allow as corruption not possible for all sectors behind this system ( from sales man to ministers)

All these 60 years of India we had had different such paradoxes and proxy reports under the sugar coated garb of large scale development, with the net result of the elected deepening their roots of stability more and more deeper.
