What a stupid treaty on Climate Change ..
by Senthil Kumar on Apr 02, 2008 06:23 PM  Permalink

Basically this is an insult to Indian Intelligence.

Per Capita emission of USA is 35 times higher than India. And USA and other rich countries want to maintain that ratio so that Indians would be always be emitting 1/35th of the emission what an American/European would be emitting.

In other words, Indians should be be kept poor to developed nations at the ratio of 1:35. (Using 1990 as Standard.)

Sheer Insult to Basic Indian Human Dignity and Self Respect.

Good to know that US is championing the cause for India's inclusion. Happy times are here!

NO they are desperately trying to wriggle out of the situation of commiting to global emission norms. Further the vieled threat is they want an agreement with restrictive clauses for India and China in case the USA is made to agree to any treaty. That is the meaning of the statement. Nothing new and certainly nothign to be proud of.

aree bewkoof, do you know wot america is talking about??? if india signs that treaty then india will be forced to reduce/control their green house emmisions. this will effect adversly the economic growth of india. however this will not be as adverse for america since they can use nuclear fuel. we on the other hand use fossil fuels extensively for everything. hence india will be at disavantage if it signs this treaty. and america is forcing india to sign it.

so you decide now if india shd sign or not

U.S is trying to maintain its powerful influence on the world by restricting economic development of India and China. Yes global warming is concern for all of us, and even without signing the treaty, India can look for alternatives to reduce emissions and take step forward to save ecology.

He is not Anti-US. He is being an Indian. Read the 3rd paragraph from last in the article and you will know the cruel intentions of US. They cannot accept the growth of any country.
I too agree that India has to cut down pollution, but there are many ways of doing it like strict rules on automobiles, de-forestry and concentrating on recycling.
I have been to different countries and I notice that Indians are very good at saving power. (whatever the reasons may be)
But most of the other countries like UK, US etc waste a lot of energy. Go to office areas after dark and they leave all the lights "ON" even if no one is there. And then number of lights they use is significantly a lot more than what Indians use for the same size of office. Even huge office buildings will be glittering in the night with no one in the office at all. Especially US, most of the automobile engines have bulky engines like 3 litre, 4 litre and 5 litre and the emissions and the fuel consumption from these vehicles is unbelievable.
And finally, if we consider the pollution per person in each and every country, I bet India is a lot better than most of the countries.

Stop being cynical, I see no reason to suspect that US is trying to scupper India's growth. Stop repeating the mistakes of Nehru who stayed away from all international agreements to form his own third club NAM which has since disintegrated. India is too important to the world and no major agreements can be signed-off withouth India's involvement and this includes the climate agreement. If we are to benefit from the opportunities offered by climate, we have to get on-board.

I think Climate will change automatically it happnens earlier too in past that there is rise and then fall in temp.U can forcast about Weather but not abt climate as this is long term issue ppl says there is goin to b rise in temp by 1 degree or so in next 50 yrs . Do u think one should start taking fear of this. This doesnt mean that i do no accept term like Global warming, thing is that we are worried much more than we should. Another thin said by these environmentalist is Antartica island has started to melt, yes i agree that Antartica Glaciers are melting but the belt which is melting is just 2-3% of total antartica Not only this there is fall in temp of other parts of antartica. PPL SHOULD START thinking about climate (specialy the Ozone layer deplition ) and should take necessary steps BUT SHOULD NOT WORRY ABT THIS 100 (wot is goin to happen in next 100 yrs..how the climate will change who cares, besides climate there will be more dangerous problem which will come in next 100 yrs).
PPL lives there entire life in worring about things. say first he worry abt how to make money (that time media will say US down slag we will face cut off of most employees of ABC corp in india) later stage he thinks how he can safe his money and all asset ( Now another hadline gangster looted the bank) he feels again worried. lastly if he feels like goin to invest somewhere ( this time again media will poke his nose and says market crashes sensex reaches down and breaks 20 yrs record)

you are right that climate change is largely happening on natural causes. But you must also state the full truth. Immediately after the temperature reaches a tipping point, a catastrophe occurs as it has always happened in past. Also please let everyone know that human beings have contributed 0.9 degrees rise by their lifestyle while nature has done the rest. And also do not forget to mention that the average temperature difference between last ice age and today is less than 10 degrees centigrade which makes the human contributed factor rather high. We ought to take remedial steps asap and worryign only will nto help

American Consumption
by Kundala Kesi on Apr 02, 2008 12:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consume 24% of the world's energy.
2. On average, one American consumes as much energy as 2 Japanese, 6 Mexicans, 13 Chinese,
31 Indians,128 Bangladeshis, 307 Tanzanians and
370 Ethiopians.
3. The population is projected to increase by nearly 130 million people - the equivalent of adding another four states the size of California - by the year 2050.
4. Forty percent of births are unintended.
5. Americans eat 815 billion calories of food each day - that's roughly 200 billion more than needed - enough to feed 80 million people.
6. Americans throw out 200,000 tons of edible food daily.
7. The average American generates 52 tons of garbage by age 75.
8. The average individual daily consumption of water is 159 gallons, while more than half the world's population lives on 25 gallons.
9. Fifty percent of the wetlands, 90% of the northwestern old-growth forests, and 99% of the tall-grass prairie have been destroyed in the last 200 years.
10. Eighty percent of the corn grown and 95% of the oats are fed to livestock.
11. Fifty-six percent of available farmland is used for beef production.
12. Every day an estimated nine square miles of rural land are lost to development.
13. There are more shopping malls than high schools.

Tell me who to control first?

wrongly understood. It is about the intellectual capacity but the energy consumption. As an example, a typical American burns 370 electric bulbs everyday than an Ethiopian who burns only one bulb.

You are right friend,US has to controll environmental pollution first. The energy consumption in US is more than India and china. They are the one emitting more and more ozone in the atmosphere but they need to drag the developing countries support to get money for their new inventions.

they are not serious about not polluting, its just that they will keep coming up with excuses in the name of national security.

as long as india has pollution levels per person of the US levels of pollution today in 2025, we can negotiate for that, and us should reach the levels of pollution india emitted in 1990 in 2025, sure we are open to that kind of rules.

like engergy is converted from one form to another; pollution will also be converted from one form to another(for good). Since its time consuming we got have little patience to allow the mother nature to correct the same.
Trust in GOD. There are so many good people. Its his responsibility to safe guard them.

Enjoy you life rather than thinking some thing useless.
