IAS Officer lands plum Job
by Sunil Dodeja on Oct 27, 2007 03:26 PM  Permalink

It would be very interesting to know the "attributes" of the three officers who have grabbed the top jobs in three top automobile companies . Management institutes will need to review their curriculum to incorporate the attributes / virtues that the three officers hold in common .
One wonders - if Jagdish Khattar is able to drive such an efficint organisation in private sector - why aren't officers of similar calibre unable to drive the Indian Economy efficiently .Is there a fault in the system . Politicians are the only difference between the private sector and the public sector . Please take note - one and all .

Competance
by Praveen Gedam on Oct 27, 2007 01:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is very fashionable these days to criticise bureaucrats regarding there incompetence, currupt nature, non-professional approach, spineless attitude and so on. Then why are these top officials getting so many tempting offers from corporate world? Perhaps, we are not realising what we have with us. No wonder, we are having spates of resignations and VRS by top notch bureaucrats.

The reason is simple. From the article:

> Unlike being in the government, where proper procedure dominates decision making, a private sector role at this level is quite different.

I couldn't stop laughing about our 'proper procedure'. I think this is what stops *good* bureaucrats to come up with intelligent and innovative ideas.

I too believe your second part of the comment is very true.

No, AFIK they actually pay better than industry standard. Also, they give very lucrative offer if you are good enough. Only problem with them is they suck everything that you got.
