I am sick reading these comments from elite group, who wanted to prove something to Indians living in India, that they are no where related to India and its roots and more important "Message they are not in India any more"... Ask yourself a question, am I an true Indian?.. If you get "YES" as response, think / Comment keeping you in as Indian Shoe and not the Western Shoe. If you get asnwer "NO", then our answer to you would be "Mind your way bro..." while some of us have sustained to establish their daily bread, would now focus in detail how to improve". "Money Time Effort need" would together put in more efforts to R & D. Be Proud & stand by India, and never brutally stab on each inch of success it tried carrying huge population and diverse culture.
Dude stop whining like losers and get yourself qualified enough to get a proper R & D jobs. Lots of it happens in India. And who says Indian IT companies do only Testing and UI work (for you ignorant souls these are two most innovative fields, every one is struggling with software quality and UI issues).
What makes your comments most foolish is that here we are talking about MSR. Its the best research organization in the world. And you say its only testing in India.
My advise is its time to hone your skills so that you get a job that is worthwhile.

If there was research happening in India then why do we import machinery from the WEST?
We are very talented but why can't we invent anything. The main reason is lack of vision of Indian Government. Government need to setup the required infrastructure to make use of young minds. Many new research basically starts at University level this is the place where young minds can think in diffrent and intutive way. What kind of setup India has to utilise the yong people's mind? Some does exists in IIT, but all research are gone to dogs because of bureacracy.
Government gives lot of tax concession on the money spent for R&D. Almost all companies create a R&D department to show more money spend on reaserch to reduce the profit margin, subsequntly to pay less TAX. No one from the government checks the following
1. What is happening on R&D center. 2. Does it physically exists? 3. Does the money spent on equipments are in place?
India's R&D is only on paper. The money spent on R&D will endup in the coffins (under the bed) of its Owners/Vice Presidents/GM etc.

I wish you had eyes to look around. Btw no where in work any company does R&D for tak savings. If government gives it as an incentive then that government's fault. Industry will carry out R&D only due to competitive reasons. So government should work on fostering competition.

Government does give tax benefit if you open a industry in remote places. The money spent on R&D of such companies come under tax rebate.
If you ever worked with Accounting Department you will know this truth.
Is there any competiton in India? The only competition is how much one can make more black money. Dude you better agree Indians are corrupt to the core and we do anything to cheat the government and vice versa...
If people beleive that R&D is happening in India they are living in fools paradise. If there were R&D then why Indians were driving only the Ambassador and FIAT (same model) from 1950-1995?
When it comes to R & D , most of the core development of products happen at US and only testing and UI related jobs are done at IDC. That is not R & D. This is same case happening at most of so called R & D by software product companies at India. Real R & D are done at PSU like DRDO, NAL, HAL etc., For Engineering grads, this is the best place to be I feel...

Well this might be a case because there is a lack of engineers and scientists because of disconnect between academia and industry. There is a wide gap of people with technical competence and vision to carry such R activities so mostly it is D that is done in R & D.
This is not about aptitude of people because they have delivered great results in foreign it is the lack of adequate space

Also the communication gap. Software product r&D can happen on a product where the maerket is, product developed in INDIA cannot be sold in US and vice versa. Several factors contribute to a product development. INDIA specific software can be devloped in INDIA and not in US except some segments like OS which INDIANs and most of the world have blindly adapted though using VISTA or LINUX or XP INDIANS cannot achieve efficiency or productivity which they could achieve if there was an OS which could cater to localized INDIAN environment.

You are bang on target buddy , Indian r& D in IT does not happen in India .In the name of r& D only low end jobs like testing and decorative works takes place .
