Stay away from Microsoft
by Himu himu on Oct 21, 2007 06:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

First ask yourself why want to work for microsoft. Is it for brand name? The very very bright people I know is doing really crap job in microsoft. Maintenance, testing, fixing crap source code of MS.

Focus on the job role not the brand.
If you want more money then try freelancing as part time job along with a decent full time job.
Microsoft was a good company to work for once. Not now.

All the people who criticized Microsoft in the above and following massages are really funny because they either are using Microsoft Operating system or internet explorer but still want to hate Microsoft.

Cisco hires the same way
by Iyer S on Oct 21, 2007 04:37 PM  Permalink

I had 7 technical interview by my collegues in the group and the manager took the final interview. All give their inputs and rate the candidate. Its not a one man show in big IT companies. Also what I have seen is the interview questions are so professinally prepared, cant say the same about Indian companies, they ask you crap that does not belong to the stream. Interviewers in Indian companies act as if they are venting some anger and want to take revenge from people who come in and they want to show off! how great they are.
That pretty much summarizes my view.

Hiring is Tough!!
by Anil Shanmugam on Oct 15, 2007 09:13 PM  Permalink

It is easy to critise any process. But the truth is that hiring is a difficult job espicially when the number of applications are in 1000s and the opening is in 10s. It is better not to hire than hire the wrong candidate.

It is as difficult to get a job change within MS as getting into MS. You will have to go thru some tough interview loop depending on the Group you want to join.

MS interviews in the US is a day's work and you may have upto 5 rounds of technical interviews (an hour each).

Having a resume with sufficient Key words is critical in getting interviews. Normally large companies do a key word search to pick up resumes. Best way to add key words is to mention that your projects used these technologies("Key words"), but need not mention that you worked on it ;).

When recruiting freshers the easiest way to filter is conducting Tests and personal interviews. Some of the most talented are at times not great communicators at the start of their career.

If you are talented you will eventually land the right job. In a career span of 30-40 Years a few of years of uncertanity is fine :). It will only give you a different set of experiences, maybe better than on job technical experiences.

ALL THE BEST!!

are indians being taken as school kids ???
by roadster on Oct 15, 2007 02:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In US one never hears of a written test or GD or multiple interviews

the HR is so competent that they can literally sniff talent asking you just few questions

its high time Indians get treated fairly by the same US companies in India from what ive seen they exploit the overdose of engineers and IT wannabees in india just because labor is cheap they ask for engineers mcas and the real talent gets lost somewhere

all the hoopla of vista created by andhra office of MS is being eroded fast with the characteristic bugs so very microsoft in nature and already version "7" is being touted as the replacement for vista (so soon?)

working in Microsoft isnt the same in India as its in US just compare and see their HR policies here by the way its not a dream company here anymore ...u guessed it right its GOOGLE baby!!!

You are wrong. Most marketing, consulting and high paying jobs in the US need multiple interviews and tests. There is no test/multiple interview for engineering jobs because engineers are hired like shit. They don't care how good you are if you have good english and can mouth a couple of technical words.

Hi Ajeet

The pay package depends on the domain expertise as well the company standards. Parity levels change company to company.
