big reatail blunders
by bahmophet on Oct 21, 2007 05:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

our countrys resource is her population.
they have to be given some employment, not snatch it away, whatever little is available.
true big retail wud be good for the rich, but can the rich afford to live in peace, after destroying the life of small traders?
what do we want to do?
plunge the country into chaos and anarchy?

Big Retail vs Kirana Dealers
by Anand sodo on Oct 21, 2007 05:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The biggest problem with us is that we desire and cherish that all others do what "I" decide is good or bad.
Banning Prostitution also means empty stomachs for 'Millions'- So should we allow it freely?
Criminalising 'Robbery and Pickpocketing' also means the deathknell for millions(as they do not have any other sourse of income)- So lets allow robbery and pickpocketing too!!
Every Human being born has some basic needs which he/she fulfills as per circumstances permitting and his/her counter-action to the circumstances.
It is for the society to decide "Legal &
Illegeal" and stop thereupon, and let others function within the legal parameters
But here we on the one hand say the Big Retail is no better than the "Lala" next door - Then WHY is everyone AFRAID of the big retail? - The fact is The kiranawalla is afraid because he knows the truth - he sells adulterated / duplicate/Substandard stuff!
The Kirana store can only die if the Reliance's and Wall marts give 'something'BETTER to the public which the kiranawala does not
So it is better these middlemen try to improve themselves rather Organise RALLIES and Stop others from doing Legal Business Ethically, Paying all the Taxes and luring the customer with Something "EXTRA"

I totally agree with Anand. The author of this article has a partial approach to the subject.
Middleman mafia shud be eliminated, and this kind of gundaism(stone pelting arsoning) shud be stricly delt with. But incidently politicians n state heads r supporting this mafia coz thats where they get the money from.
Although i am not an admirer of Ambani or reliance or any retail giant, i admire their effort to pay the farmers what they deserve in real at the same time benefitting the consumer.
The margin they hav is very low. In a country where farmers are committing suicide, these retailers are adopting them and assuring a good future. The farmers are being rewarded for their sweat and toil. Government instead of making false promises to farmers on subsidy and relief shud hav practical approach and encourage this development model. Its already a hit abroad and so will it be in India.
As far as opposition is concerend it will just be for the meanwhile and in future im sure it is going to be a success. It will be a revolution. Employment will be generated at a high scale but only for person with minimal education, which will be good. So those illiterate baniyas and kiranawalas who made a fortune by selling products at mrp and adulterated stuff may disappear in dark.
They hav been making easy money with the
the blood of farmers and working labor class people.Last but not the least this will solve all the encroachment problems in towns and cities posed by these hawkers, there

and i dont understand
by Abhi Bhat on Oct 15, 2007 10:09 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

People say that job creation is good. Big corporates shud be welcome just becos they create jobs. But I consider job with corporates hampers progress as it harnesses very less potential in anyone. Optimum result will be achieved if everyone becomes self employed. i.e. every has a profession and they work in collaboration to give result. This is fundamentally different than working on 'created job'.
But throw in it some greed, some politics, some lethargy, some ego, some stupidity, we conjure something so familiar today.

I think u r living in ideal world. 'Every one should be self employed.''Its very easy to say, but is it reality for poor country like india where major population is unemployed, the great theory is not gonna help, we have to be realistic. Truth is only pvt. company, multinational both indian, foriegn can do the magic right now, when it comes to job creation. And yes once when these people have enough capital, seed money then they will start their onw business give jobs for few people. But right now the focus has to be starting the chain reaction, just like china is doing. China was hard core comminist has learned this lesson to bow to multinational finally. We in india are still fooling ourselves.

well said M...a comparison of labour practices at the general kirana store would probably give a complete perspective of the same tho...someone asking for extra compensation for half an hour of extra work will probably find him/her self jobless by next day

Biggies retails are must for india's growth.
by manoj kumar on Oct 15, 2007 08:34 AM  Permalink

People should welcome big retails. Look at the statistics. Walmart is biggest employer in america. Careated maximum no. jobs than any other company. Still many people hate walmart but u have to check the reality also. Thats why even a communist like china has around 100 Walmart retails, and the no. is going to be several hundred in few years. Why china is worshiping multinational like walmart. They know for any developing nation most important thing is high paying job creation.
Same is in India people should be happy that so many indians multinationals are also opening retails with walmart.

Controlling every step of this chain
by Vineet KAPOOR on Oct 14, 2007 11:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Reliance and other such stores have a simple and straight strategy. Slowly but surely, they will control the whole supply chain and other such elements of this process. Once, this is done, people like you and I will become puppets in the hands.

Any comments / feedback ?

....and slowly they transfer their shares to the hands of foreign firms (eg: BPL to Hutch to vadaphone) and total national retail net work and farm products procurement control falls into the foreign hand and another EASTINDIA company will come and rule India in very near future........
This may be the end result.
