It is all hype created by Indian media, the real facts are something different.
The real face of 75% India is - this is not based on so-called booming IT and Pharma Industry, Automobile Industry and Mfg sector. but based on real facts.
1. In majority of state we do not have the 3 basic necessity required for a country to grow. a. No Roads. the moment you come out of big cities you will hardly find any roads b. No Electricity - Many places in India do not have electricity for 12-18 hours, many places do not get electricity AT ALL. c. No Hospitals, No Schools not to mention ZERO law and order.
I have seen the many states in India be it Maharashtra, AP, MP, Bihar, UP, Orissa, Gujarat and the story is same everywhere, Do not look at Mumbai, Pune, Hyd, Bhopal, Bangalore, Chennai we have another hundred thousand districts which do not have any things mentioned in a,b,c.

you are absolutely spot on. Though, the educated indian class has the 'potential' to do something good. India will grow, but the road to growth is full of potholes. Just wait for a big scandal to emerge out of Indian stock market. All these people who are singing praises will be the same ones who will pull down the pants of the cheerleaders.
Basically, as everyone in india can see, only 1% of the population is actually seeing any benefit of this growth. By the way, have you noticed that population problem scarcely gets mentioned these days?
The sociocultural and econimic makeup of India at the time it was golder bird is completely different from what we have today. Why can't we look forward and see where do we want to go from here instead. This time around the moguls/europeans are already here.

This is now by congress "Golden Bird" Earlier it was by BJP "India Shining"
If at all this is going to happen. Our major focus should be on if consumption is increasing, how to prevent the depletion of natural resources and combat with pollution, this will create lot industrial and consumer waste. All other developed countries have a system of handling this. People will increase electricity consumption by many folds, again a global warming hazard. Other developed nations have a limited population, imagine India doing this, doom day will come faster.

First enjoy the Dhooms day, then let us think of the dooms day!
Only the rich will get richer and the poor will poorer. All this fancy statistics is useless. India still has 60% living below poverty level. Our governance is a total nuisance and laundering of public money. With big corporations displacingthe earning poor things will turn for the worse.
Nice article with good facts. However it does not take into consideration the effects of inflation which is growing at an alarming rate. Thus all figures need to be indexed for this fact. Hope McKinsey would have taken this into consideration for all calculations.

Absolutely right. great article makes you feel good. But the inflation is the worrisome factor mostly for lower income group and people below poverty level. Either the purchasing power of these people have to be increased by going for floating minimimum wage per hour as in the west or the inflation needs to brought down solidly or jobs need to be created targeteing the lower income group ( like manufacturing, supporting agri, fisheries, forestry, mining etc, jobs that dont need extensive education).
