I agree with the author that though the diagnosis is clear like day light the prescriptions are more political rather practical. Congress which is responsible for the longest reigning molestation of state due to corruption, selfseeking partisan and greedy politicians can not be trusted with anything. Good governance helped china become rich and reach out to its population too. Good governance in USA and Europe made them super powers and improved the quality of life of people. But it was actually bad governance which failed Russia when it was communist and it was bad governance which failed it when it adopted free market economy. The portion of population that is growing as per author and Aiyar is the one which is well governed and within reach of the govt mahcinery in whateer disgusting form it exists in india. It is not a question that we do not have the best health system or any other social thing like schools the problem is that whatever we have is disgusting due to corruption. The money allocated per person is low but even that it not reaching people. When scums like CHidambaram increase taxes and other burdens on the 0.2 % of tax paying population they state the examples of other nations but are the citizens of this nation taxpayers and non taxpayers getting the kind of facilities that even countries like Philipines with fractured economies are able to provide to their people.

The communist ideology is in the way of india growth. Look at china. They r growing because are very tuff on growth, no union bazi. Unions in india make sure that an employee can take it easy and let the country go to hell. This is in way of good governance.

Manoj,
I presume, when you say 'Union' it is the trade unions by workers at the lowest rung that you are referring to. What about 'Unions' of the industrialists? FICCI, ASSOCHAM, Cellular Operators Association, Mechant/Traders Associations, Transport Owners Associations, Builders lobby etc.? Aren't they out there to squeeze the max benefits out of the mis-governace. Dont they rake in much much bigger bucks than a miniscule working class people. Every one is out there to make a fast buck. Dont blame only one section.
Raj

Aiyar finds it the hard way
by biz Narayan on May 09, 2007 12:01 PM  Permalink

As a storm trooper of sickularism, being in the forefront of assault against "hindutwa", this "marxist" thug deservedly expected more. But it appears, he has been disatisfied, he has been sidelined. He found it the hard way that there is one mao, one stalin and so on... thats for sake of the poor.

Aiyar - an oppurtinist, an intellectually challenged person speaking big
by biz Narayan on May 09, 2007 11:54 AM  Permalink

Aiyar says those prescriptions because thats what is considered chick amomg the 'emminent' intellectuals, his useless society, the one he tries to impress.

He needs to speak big, to show his discontent to impress the comrades, it is a competetion out there among the intellectuals.

That asides, he is an idiot, as implied in the article.
