The airlines in general & low cost airlines in particular do their best to offer competetive prices. But the UPA government seems to be hell bent on making air travel a luxury only the very rich can afford. I have done air travels when the taxes were more than the basic fare. A further increase in the tax is aimed at hitting the middle class & upper middle class below the belt.Well done Congress, NCP & Left.
Don't change it even by using flimsy pretexts. Nobody thought about it till Air Deccan capitalised on the non-peak reduced tariff advantage and suddenly the govt. wants to structure its pricing around it. The solution for decongesting is in building better infrastructure. We should scoff at artificial means such as these by making airfares 'unaffordable'. What happens if people still buy tickets at hiked 'peak-time' prices? What happens to the decongestion argument? And what happens if people stop flying by a big percentage during peak hours? Will we then sit and dissect under utilization of the air infrastructure in this country? Govt should see all dimensions of the issue before announcing such measures
The government is trying to kill private low cost operators. It does not make any sense to travel by air if you have t travel at no -peak hours. I am a regular travller and travel short distances by air. I came come back on the same day after finishing my business engagements. This ne proposal would lead to inconvienece and loss of productive business time.
The proposal should be summarily rejected by everyone .

Dipak Ya u are right to certain extent only...BUT STILL PROPOSAL FRUITFUL TO LARGE EXTENT..Because large % of travellers are NON-BUSINESS ...SO certain Flights can be scheduled for such Travellers ,,they will still 1. save LOT OF TIME,,and STILL 2.it will be far comfortable compared to Railways 3.People can attend their JOBS in day time & can slip in time saving 1 day 'LEAVE' and next morning they will be very much at their Home/Destination and whole day will be available to them...

Hi Rashmi, Please think twice before creating divide among consumers based on income and usage. Business users are the peak users of airlines. Occasional travellers like us are a significant percentage. Think cooly, will airlines charge lower for off peak hours? I think not.

You seem to be rich, this should not bother you even if the fare increase few rupees.
If we opt to fly during odd hours, will the govt ensure that the passenger reaches home safe ? Nowadays, commuting in the cities during odd hours has become very risky (chain snatching, stealing credit cards, kidnapping and what not). This govt is sure to be out after the next elections.
Inability to have the infrastructure in place...the new move The peak hour flights are largely taken by people travelling for work from one city to the other... imposition of this extra money is going too increase travel budget in an organization...
How many people enjoy flying during a non-peak hour of Midnight - 5AM? These are times when a domestic airport should be CLOSED!
I am a foreign citizen living in India and frequently travel by all of the airlines - Jet, King Fisher, Spicejet, Air Deccan, Go Air, each and every one. Rather than imposing a ridiculous fare hike for peak and non-peak hours, the national government and the local state governments need to modernize the airports. Invest in larger airports, build additional runways, hire better trained pilots, stop using airforce bases as airports, fix the speaker announcement system and signs in airports. The only good thing at an Indian airport is the luggage carts are FREE!
In the last 5 years, India has made great leaps and bounds with the low cost carriers and providing people with an opportunity to travel and connecting the country. The highway infrasructure is still poor and travel by road, even on super highways, is impossible. The government has failed to plan for an increase in air traffic and throwing another tax on travel will not solve the problem at all. It will only hurt and further burden the airlines.
Of all the airports in India, New Delhi domestic airport should recieve a Failing grade in all areas. To be the capital of India, with local travelers, business travelers, tourists, etc, it is a very poor image of a 21st Century India.
The Politicians and there families while travelling do not have to apy from there pockets all they are using is tay payers money they are least bother about the people and for small business people who use to prefer airlines will be nothing but adding on expnenes ,on one hand government is bent on inceraing employment oppurtunities and on other hand wnats to kill small business and increase unemployment
It looks like UPA govt is increasing the prices of each and everything step by step to ensure that the honest tax payers and made to pay the price for being prompt and honest with their tax payments.
Let the man who thought this idea first pay from his pocket & feel the load. if the Govt is not able to provide the infrastructure they should invite the private cos. frm Sudhakar.

Why will he pay from his pocket. Tax payers like you and me have already paid and will keep paying taxes which will fund these politicians air travel trips...
