HCL - With its History!

I am an ex-HCLite. With such an history like this, I wonder how could HCL not become No.1 Software Company in India. I understand that their base was in Hardware, but still having had its foot in the computer industry in India, HCL should have been aggressive in their approach. It always played safe. Now with Vineet Nayar (President) in charge, things are moving fast in the last 2 yrs. He is an aggressive leader. Makes everyone run around and stay in their toes. Had he been at the top 5 yrs before, i am sure HCL would be the no.1 company by now in India. A laid back approach, some conservative strategies didn't help them until recently. It didnt have a great intranet like what it has now until Vineet stepped in. Such a simple operational issue was also not thought about earlier. Surprising!!

HCL's competitiveness with other MNCs in terms of infrastructure (some of their offices are decade or two old), Salary (just not there yet - cannot afford to be conservative in such a competitive world), Employee relations approach, Fun at work (focus not enough).

But I am sure HCL is going to move forward and catch up quickly as the current leadership is good.

i request nadar do some think for village community and open few centre in city and village where our villager unemployed peopel may work and learn computer,, addict to knowledge and pleasure of internet, otherwise hey beome terrorist of manipur, assam other parties

An inspiring story.

Opportunities are more now with finacing much easier, once credentials are established. The young should always think positively and seize the opportunities as they come. Many are unhappy working for others. Rather than cribing, they should follow up with solid action. People who jump to criticise would also appreciate that it is not easy to set up an outfit that can survive, let alone build something like HCL, Infosys etc.

People like Nadar had a vision and and went about with passion. These stories should inspire the young that hard work and team spirit are the backbone of success.

Let these stories bring out positve jibes rather than synical comments, withiut basis, running down achievements.

In the business circuit HCL is known to be not so ethical company. I am not sure how much of it is true or it is just the propaganda of competitors, who can't counter the agressive marketing of HCL

HCL has been a great enterprise transforming the whole face of indian IT in last three decades. They have the right mix for an Indian IT Giant and are poised for growth. The major strength of HCL has always been its PASSIONATE WORK FORCE rather than strong process and an effective business model. If HCL becomes more adaptive to the changes around and bring quality process and a redundant business model,then with its strong work force and the most passionate and Empowered employees they can beat any MNC and attain the top notch position in a few years time. ALL THE BEST TO HCL .......NOW AND ALWAYS

No , HCL Is no more into manufacturing of chips now.Core business on the Hardware side is PCs servers and switches.Infact u can get details on the site www.hcl.in.

Frankly , there is a lot of scope for improvement and lot of catching up to do as mentioned by another viewer, for egs, HCL being an IT company intself has a long way to go in automating the whole processess , Their sap is highly unproductively organised and brings delay in process rather than speeding it up. A sap optimisation is inevitable at this stage of business.

The whole business models needs to be alingned to the organisational goals which is not happening now , people work here with a short term view and the overall orgainisational goal is never impressed up on the employees.

They must completely differentiate between the home segment market ,PC business and focus more on the enterprise levels, the right focus on this segment can work wonders as they can leverage on the strong technical team as well as the exhaustive reach through out the country.

Flying employees from a chopper from the middle of nowhere, and the guy can't arrange for transport to the chopper!

A pretty silly attempt to fool current & prospective employees... Make them feel proud, while paying peanuts!

(In real life too, the Investment banker is the one driving the CRV)

I work for HCL. There r few people here who r realllly knowledgeable - like - guys who r well versed in system software, know how to write an OS etc...

With Vineet Nayyar @ the top, lot of good things r happening inside HCL. I hope the transformation happens sooon.

btw, HCL is my first company and I have been working for 7 years.
