Ban on Smoking
by venkateeshwaran swamy on Jul 24, 2007 12:57 PM  Permalink

Yesterday I told my Maid Servant "Madam, I would like to have a smoke; do you mind?". She said, "No sir, please ensure the smoke does not blow in my direction". I said "in that case, please take a break for five minutes and come back to work after that". And my wife said, "you are not employing her; I am, and I do not smoke"

Anbumani sir, please be realistic and not bombastic. Please let us know if there is a 100% smoke free and Ghutka / beedi person in your department before you put a ban on others.

Are you trying to run our lives by saying that we need permission to smoke in our own house? You are not our "Big Brother" and please do not force on others what you personally do not like.

By Somaraju Hanumantha Rao

Dear All,
How Can anybody decide work place, it is a smoking zone for pedastrian on the road and work place for the sweepers. There are somany which are damaged to human life, why can't ban all those,
Alchol,Sex,Motor vehicles-smoke is dangerous only those who consume and to around the people, but vehicle pollution is more even to a common pedasrtian, why dont ban all vehicles, let us have bullockcart then.Liquor,Cenment& Coal Industry,Bulk Drug manufacturing Cos, is more prone to the greatest hazard to human life, why dont we ban, dont produce life saving drugs too.
Gobal warming etc, why cant we stop all industrialisation, Finally it is a foolish idea.
There are enough things in the world, which are equally harm to the life, better ban every thing then. It is also a big foolish thing again ie increasing the taxes on smoking, blody, why u r we encouraging the industry at one side and increasing the prices on the other. Why ban on smoking, better on tobacco, then dont allow a single cizarette to be produced in india, first do that or BETTER TO JOIN IN THE SMOKING CLUB IMMEADIATELY TO MINIMISE THE LOSS as smoking is more harm to the people around smoke.

Alcohol is risky but is risky to the idiot who is drinking it not to the people standing around him. millions of innocent people, mainly children are becoming prey to second-hand smoke every year. its quite shameful that some people are utterly insensitive to other people around them. they just want to blow up into smoke their insufficiencies and insecurities and non-performance at the cost of causing serious damage and nuisance to people around them.

Smoke at home. please dont bring your dirty smoke to public places.

I feel babus who have for decades abused places by such acts should be banished and thrown to the dogs!

by alert on Jul 21, 2007 05:38 AM  Permalink

great move... it will work... already it is working well in all IT companies....
Initially it is better to provide a smoking area in restrooms so that the addicts get some time to get over the habit.

by buddy buds on Jul 21, 2007 02:49 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont think this is gonna work ....its tooo bold ... and as we know ...ppl will give and take bribe to get away with it ... the better solution would beto increase taxes on tobacco ... tht wht they did in texas.... they increased it by $1 a pack ,... and trust me ... i haveseen most of the ppl here quitting ...but thts the most practical wayi think to deal with this issue ...and yeh closing the industry once and all is good ...but NOT GONNA HAPPEN ...goverment just gets tooo much money from the industry ....

Why sell condoms? Ban having SEX - AIDS will be controlled
by velagapudi srijagadish kumar on Jul 20, 2007 11:50 PM  Permalink

Stupid Statement and a stupid policy. Policy sounds good for all the non-smokers. I would say -- Make some sort of smoking zones and implement such policies. Smokers have the same right as non-smokers to live without harming others. Better make such arrangements and then a strict implementation would be applauded.

Finally Good news
by india on Jul 20, 2007 11:41 PM  Permalink

People who smoke are simply addicted of tobaco, however give different reasons like relaxation from stress as if they take all the stress, nobody else. Anyway, very few people realise that passive smoking can casue all the problem that active smoke causes and passive smokers include babies, pregnant women, children, old citizen, health conscious people and finally the people who chose to be non smokers. However we can always creat some smoking zone so that the smokers can indulge themselves with the evil fumes more and more.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE
by Deepak Susendran on Jul 20, 2007 11:39 PM  Permalink

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO IMPLEMENT THIS IN INDIA... I CAN BET MY ANYTHING ON IT..

PEOPLE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRINK AND DRIVE BUT OFTEN GET AWAY PAYING 50 100 BUCKS...

HOW DO YOU POLICE SMOKING AT HOME?? IT IS RIDICULOUS...

IN ADDITION TO TAKING BRIBES FROM HAPLESS MOTORISTS, POLICE ARE GOING TO DEMAND MONEY FOR SMOKING.. THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK...

THIS IS SILLY..
