Reliance SEZ
by SreenivasaRao K. on Jul 19, 2007 10:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ulka Mahajan has rightly pointed out the concerns of the poor who will be displaced if the SEZ comes into being, but it is not clear whether she does not want the SEZs at all as fertile land should is utilized for non-agrulctural purposes. she also says the compensation is not fair and is not honoured as promised (because of the past experience with government). Will she be satisfied if the compensation is extraordinarily generous as Reliance makes out (10 times the market value and return of 1/8th of the developed land)and its distribution is overseen by a former Chief Justice of India with support from activists groups (not excluding the non-landholders who will also be affected). Two recent developments are worth emulating. Videocon will offer employment letters before hand to those who surrender land and Jindal will offer shares at par in addition to compensation. These can also be incorporated in the Reliance agreement too. One has to realize that land values in the vicinity of the SEZs will shoot up after development and those who surrender land for the SEZs will be poorer than those who have not, and will lose esteem in the community. In fact, these people should be offered employment, very attractive compensation, shares, housing, educational and medical facilities, and training in other avocations. I would even suggest that a clause be incorporated that when this land is sold later, the original landholders should also be compensated even after a hundred years

India does not belong to urban people!!It belongs to nobody

I already lived in 3 metros of India.Paying numerous taxes.I believe most us who r writing message is paying taxes on full..and our FM is coming up with some new ones.so now of 110 Cr people of India only 20% is paying taxes and other 80% enjoying it with a citizenship of Rural India. It seems that my 6 days hard earned money is going to create electricity, water and basis infrastructure for the people who r creating partition via caste, jaati in Rural India(thanks to politicians like Arjun Singh) and refused to take polio shots n willing to divide his land in his 10 children. This will not help at all to the growth of Agriculture. They need to take a consolidated effort like Ukraine Model. The people like U.Mahajan just enjoying her fame and celebrity status at the cost of the poor village people. If she is so concerned den do not ask question but find the answer for them.I belive u will never find one as it is not going to give u any media hype.I am not in favour of SEZ but a planned manner of development is desired in India which is suffering from plague like unplanned sturcture, corruption and partition of people of India in terms of caste, jaati, state and vote catching, highly bribed politicians with no self respect.I am seeking wisdom.Maybe a strong youthful President and his rules will get us out from the hand of this liars and hypocrites called as politicians and ministers.A corrupt poodle pooper like prabha patil with all due respect do not fit the bill.control birth rate to l

SEZ

today we are having global warming evrywhere ask any one and he will tell u that we never required an air conditioner in the house in mumbai about 20yrs back.today to some extent we cant survive without it. This has resulted because of cutting trees, destroying forests and occupation of open areas. by building SEZ we are going to have a lot of open area converted into a concrete jungle. just think what effect it will have on environemnt also. We will get to know about the effect it has in a few years. Economic development is necesary but not at the cost of environment.

There exist two Indias. One India powered by the rich who enjoys the Sensex being at 15K and the other India (rural)which is going form bad to worse. The fact is that about 80% of the population lives in the second category. It is unfortunate that the politicians of the counry remember the rural population only in the election year.

SEZ SHOULD BE SET UP IN BACKWARD AREAS
by Rakesh on Jul 19, 2007 09:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why SEZS are being set up in developed area like Mumbai or Pune? SEZs must be set up in industrially backward areas like KERALA, UP, BIHAR, WB, RAJASTHAN, & GADCHIROLI, BEED, USMANABAD, DHULE IN MAHARASHTRA. THERE IS A SAYING "DONT PUT ALL EGGS IN ONE BASKET"

The poor are parasites.
by Saurabh Nirantar on Jul 19, 2007 09:39 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The poor of India are parasites who get free access to electricity, water, pesticides, guaranteed prices etc. All this money comes from urban taxpayers like us. Being poor is not a license to wring money out of productive middle classes.

It's high time that they made some contribution to national development. With such a mindset, how can you build roads or ports? These activists won't be happy until we're all sitting in mud huts weaving khadi underwear.

Give me your address and I will come and show you what economically poor means. These people don't get anything for free but are backbone of your country. But they are probably richer than you in intellect, emotions and values.
I think you are poor - intellectually and emotionally.

Hey Fool!

Rich and urban people are parsites, they always depand on poor people to grow food and supply. Who told you Govt is giving free electricity, pesticide, which commodity has guaranteed in price

sitting in AC room and writing this kind of messege is very easy go out and work one day in form then you will realise who is parasite

and rich are leaches, they have so much but still want more.
There are many poor in rural and urban area, who have (forget about free) no electricity, water, good school and good health care.
Calling poor as parasites is being out of touch with reality.

Saurabh,

You may be a urbanite but your thoughts are decadent and reek of bias. You should be made to live in rural India for at least a year so tat you would be able to know what the difficuties are? Better your building should be demolished for road widening or for the metro and you should be given compensation as per govt. rules Then probably you would come to know what the pain of the farmers

You are diverting the attention from main issue. If the land being used for farming is changed to industrial land, one day there will be no farming in India and whole country will depend on other countries. You may have money to buy the costly food being imported but what about crores of other indians who will not be able to buy that costly food. The poor of India are not parasites but it is yoy the rich people who are bigger parasites, who are sucking blood of poor as well as middle class people. In the name of development you are turning this land into a concrete jungle sucking up the natural resources of this beautiful land only for the sake of living a luxurious and lustful life. Money corrupts mind, power corrupts more and absolute power corrupts absolutely and this qoute is truly applicable to you the rich class, the power hungry politicians who are selling this country sucking the blood of not only the poor and middle claas but also the mother india.

Mr Saurabh,

I am sure you have not seen the poverty. Imagine throwing your kid in a river when you can treat her, in Jaunpur UP. Imagine selling your kids when you can afford to give them 2 meals a day, in Kalahandi Orissa. Why the hell SEZ needs agricultur eland. Let MP and UP government give them all the Chambal Baron land to develop their SEZ. Talk about poor when you know what poverty is. Poor doesn't live in urban areas, theylive back in tribals.

We should strive to make the rest of the 30% 'URBAN' population equal to the 70% 'RURAL' population... not the other way round..!! Do away with all the modern factories and industrialization, all indian should become 'POOR' farmers, only then will we be able to find a permanent solution to our agricultural and all other problems..

NA RAHEGA BAANS, NA BAJEGI BAANSURI..!!

there should be no SEZs, no factories, no roads, cars, etc.. we should demolish all 'PUKKA' houses and the go on lifelong strikes to demand 'ADEQUATE' compensation from the govt....

I cannot see any other solution for our woes..

Shift the SEZ ... to Vidharbha
by Hooter on Jul 19, 2007 09:22 AM  Permalink

I fully agree with Srnivas's below post.

India belongs to the ULTRA RICH people like Industrialists, Politicians, Film Stars & Cricketers.

Why politicians can't think of solutions in such crises situations ?

Why can't we have such SEZs in Vidharbha area where rainfall is less and where farners are committing suicides. It would be better idea that both parties are benefitted if farmers are properly compensated with money for land and employment schemes.

But politicians should think openly and fearlessly while making such policies.
