Note for haters
by on Jan 28, 2007 01:10 AM  Permalink

people who badmouth reliance and think TATAs etc were saint-like corporations should realise :

1)TATAS , birlas and all other top industrialists blocked FDI and reforms in the country for decades after independance , to block foreign investment into country . They were part of the dirty socialism , which has left us developing even 60 years after independance . Imagine , if the market reforms began in 1970s itself , we would have been on par with china right now .

2)Reliance was an exception , it infact has always encouraged FDI . Dhirubhai ambani was missing from the high-level industrial delegation to Manmahon singh in 1990's , in an effort to freeze the market reforms introduced by Dr.singh .
3)Look at the size of reliance today .
Combine tatas and birlas (who have been around for several decades now) and yet reliance is bigger .

Great to be joining
by Minto Dua on Jan 28, 2007 12:26 AM  Permalink

Soon i may get an opportunity to be part of this organisation. When i read about the great patriarch - Shiri Dhiru Bhai - it reminds me of my own family's struggles and how my own dad raised the family's fortunes from scratch and how my own brothers have gone about building these further. I hope i can also contribute to the wealth generation and maintaining the great name of this organisation.

Mukesh Ambani a graet enterpenuer
by anant agarwala on Jan 27, 2007 10:44 PM  Permalink

There is no doubt that the father of Mukesh, Sri Dhirubhai Ambani was a great enterprenure and could able to give Mukesh education upto engineer but now-a-days some new self made industrialists are comming on. For examle Sri Anil Agarwal of Sterlite/Vedant started with almost a zero, having educational qualification only matriculate but in this small age he grown up like any thing as a proprioter of a big emperor.

Do they have any social responsibility...
by Manish on Jan 26, 2007 03:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Unlike Tata's does relaince has ever done something on the Socil responsibility part.. If we leave creating employment oppourtunity.. which they do through their various companies.. does they have ever made any free school.. or old age home or Free hospital for poor... and if the have ever made anything like that.. then does they have cared for such things.. till date... its a big question..

Dear Manish,

1. Reliance has actually done quite a bit in terms of healthcare, education and water supply at least near their manufacturing areas.

2. Employment creation cannot be just left out, that is really one of their most important contributions. A free hospital is fine, but providing a job to someone who may one day start another free hospital is remarkable.

3. I do not work for Reliance :)

I do agree that Ambani's need to do something more on Social responsibility, but I also feel what they have done for the country is great ... tought young Indians how to dream big, and from a population of a Billion just imagine five people following on Dhirubhai's footsteps ... no doubt that they have done lots for the society than u,me or most of the people reading this article ... so lets not critisise them for not doing something, but appreciate what they did.

'Social responsibility apart from creating employment oppurtunity'- man u need to read you own words....strange are the ways of socialism...they (Reliance grp) have worked hard and with honesty..created wealth..how wrong is that..I ask you - do u give you hard earned money to the "society"...the problem with our world is that we cant do things and cant make a difference in the world and not let others do it too...whenever we talk about "plurals" like society and religion, we create problems...all the problems of the world starts with these words...What you need sir is to understand- its their money- they created the wealth and its their wish if they want to spent it for any cause...do u want to be dictated on how you spent YOUR money?

Well said, Ashish. It their money. Its their wish what to do.

Donations/welfare/trust all are bull s**t. A corporate gimmick. Again its their money if they (tata) want they can donate to poor.

But what I say is if "donation is good", "providing employment is Eternal". Because first case is feeding, which dissappear in hours. Second case is giving oportunity to make food, which is forever.

Manish,
One should teach a hunger how to catch the fish. Should not feed.

It require much maturity to understand Dhirubaism

Book
by Somu Sundar on Jan 26, 2007 03:20 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why not do a book on Reliance, Ambanis & the future (life & times). The book a lot of people would want to own. A book with all the high's & lows and what it means then and how would it be different then...
A serious thought worth considering...lacs of share holdres in the present and the future would love to know...

To create the biggest corporation in India bigger than most of the biggest across the continents....Congratulations...

Actually we need books on lot of things and in local languages. I hope managers in India start writing books in a language "people think".

Exactly. We need books on lot lot things. Infact may be there are some, but not accessible freely. And even from ourside current culture/life style does not provide us to search allow us to read those.

Typically, in a common town in india, how many bookstores are there and how many movie theatres are there?

Again, I am not blaming society. Its our mistake. More people are going to theatres than bookstore. So theatres are increasing.
