Number portability is definitely the way to go!! If there is the danger of customers moving to a better service provider, the lackadaisical cos will definitely pull up their socks..
Its absurd but true. If all are alike then number portability does not help. It helps when the fear is that one will leave co A and hop on to B who gives better service.
Glad to read that there is someone who share the same feeling. Be it technology/defence etc looks UPA Govt prefer to stic to obsolete technology...or anti competetive practice. Reason is simple is they will not do so every politicial will not sit on crores of Rs. and with 9.2% GDP growth rate 60% of India are untouched...Please Mr. maran and others wake up now and look beyond your bunglows.

For number portability implementation, the bureaucrats have to be show portability. They have to "move" out of their "kursi" and actually have to read grievances like this, and experience the "pain" of bad service.
