tata itself has cut down it's employee number in India few years back to improve productivity and thus profits i think they will use the same strategy in investment plans in corous
TATAs will do that with their experience. They know how to tackle the unions and I find this is a threat given by the British to an Asian business house. It will the way of Shilpa Shetty's success. I don't think we need to ponder much over this.

It doesnt matter if your suggestion is accepted or not Mr.Modi. I can understand your concern for Indians. I truly standby you when you say Tatas should give a chance for Indians to work there. But given the globalisation it is inevitable that TATAs hire workforce from developing countries. I think TATA's strategy is to import finished steel to India, I am sure some way or the other Indians will be benefitted and there will be more employment created in our country itself.
Isn't this ludicrous that western companies ask Indian government to liberalise labor laws so that they can hire and fire employees at their will?
West has double standards in everything. If it benefits them, it is good else it is bad. It is high time that pseudo intellectuals in India realise that and develop their own thought process rather than following West just blindly.

Only the US has random hire and fire... Europe has various degrees of protectionism against that, ranging from a moderate one in UK to hardcore socialism in france where you cant fire an employee after a year...
"It is high time that pseudo intellectuals in India realise that and develop their own thought process rather than following West just blindly" What is that even supposed to mean? Thought process? You mean we too should go protectionist? Been there, done that. 50 yrs leading into Manmohan Singh's watershed budget has been nothing but that. And look what it got us...
This is a trade union threatening a strike against large scale sacking. They do it everywhere. The govt of UK is not involved in this. Finally, everybody has double standards on everything. That includes us. Everybody is driven by their own self interest and there is nothing wrong with that.

well if u r a good enough eomployee then u shud not be scared to get fired. if ur not performance oriented and still want to be a liability to any company then u shud be shown the door.nothing wrong with that

Disband corus unions? Ratan tata only bought corus not the govt of UK. Unions are protected by government laws not company laws. Your comments are generally insensitive. A workforce is naturally apprehensive about redundancies and unions try to pull all stops to prevent it from happening. India does it too. Remember when Bombay airport redevelopment was outsourced to a foreign firm? The local union threatened strikes unless GoI guaranteed that there would be no job losses. If your company is taken over by another one and lets say you are the head accountant. The other company has its head accountant and so it shows you the door. Will you react the same way as you do now? Indian companies by and large have been reluctant to sack people willy nilly. That need not hold true in future. MNCs are already doin it. Its a business. He'll do what's in his interest.

Great Suggestion... time to give some 'gifts' back to the whites, that we were receiving for 200 years
The teething problem for Tata at Corus has started. Job cuts are not good, but if it has to be done, it should be done prudently. And proper consideration should be given to the laid off employees. 1 Bn Indian are looking forward for a good beginning of Mr. Ratan Tata in Europe.
It will be maybe some more time , the workers in the West realize that the World is truly flat. 'Worlds most Efficient Workers' claim could be disputable. It would be a interesting year for the shareholders of TATA Steel.
